Being over budget

    Being over budget

    I still don't understand the financials in this game.

    My team is currently over budget and in the past I have avoided finishing in the red at nearly all costs. But, what is the penalty, really? I know once over budget, your cash is used to cover the difference. I know that if you are over budget the maximum Scouting Budget and Player Development can only be half of what the league average is, which I would assume is quite a disadvantage. And I know there is a disadvantage for signing Free-Agents and re-signing your own players...but what is to stop a team from say, entering the year over budget, and trading for $50M worth of expiring contracts. Does the Owner get upset and lower the budget next season? For example, if you are $0 balance in cash, and $50 million overbudget, does your cash next season start at -$50m?

    I'm confused.

    Your owner has ZERO input on your budget!!!

    It's strictly seasons revenue projection add in media revenue and cash carried over from previous season. If all you expenses are over you roll into next season with the cash loss no matter how big. (See Pitt). Also if you profit over 10ml the owner takes the rest like a black hole.

    Simple. We SHUT THE OWNERS OFF. He can be ecstatic or furious won't matter. We voted on this years back.

                          Yes. You'd start in the red at 50M. I've had a couple seasons where I'm in the black and start in the red only because of revenue sharing. I usually have to end the year about 5m over to not be over the following season.

                              To answer some of your question:

                              If you are that severely over budget, the owner (yes, fun clown, the owner. The owner still sends us emails even if their personality doesn't have an affect) will cut your budget to reflect that.

                              You may still have a strong enough budget because of media money and expected merchandising and ticket revenue, but you'll lose some.

                              If you are $50 MM in the red, you won't see the budget get cut $50 MM because of the above things I mentioned. You still need to pay your players.

                              More than likely, what will happen is you just won't have any available cash.
