4-2 sim with wins over New Orleans and Pittsburgh.

Tamieke went toe-to-toe with Jamie Thomas in a 1-0 victory.

Congrats to Henry Rodrigues who with his 38th home run passed Yoshinaka Toiguchi for most home runs in a single season by a Denver player.

I once thought it would be Pat Verba accomplishing this feat, but instead a second rounder ignored in the anticipation of three first round outfielders has taken the baton. He is now just a few home runs from joining Pat Verba in passing Jerry Fortin and Wessin Ramirez in the Top 10 home run list in Denver history. It's a small one led by one big Hall of Fame 3B bat.

5-1 sim all on the road at Dallas and New York.

          Massive, massive result.

Just as good, Pittsburgh went 3-3. So we lead the Ale by two games.

One game up on Denver for home field too.

We are at home against Cleveland and New Orleans this sim. Home stretch now.

How weird the game thinks Dunn broke the 47 HR record when he already set it last year and the league history says so.

Washington now travels to Carolina for a three game series and then to Seattle for four games. The last road trip of the 2009 season. Our 44-30 road record is the best in the IL and I'm hopeful we can create more separation in the Stout.

I'm honestly surprised how well my team is doing with this make shift rotation. If I make the post-season, I'm still unsure of who would be my #4 SP. Probably whoever pitches the best these last two weeks between Ian Fain, Joey Anderson or Bernard Purglove. All players cut by DL teams this season.

Glad to see Tyler McLouth hitting again in Denver. I doubt Carlos would consider picking up his $11M team option but with his performance so far, maybe there is a possibility he gets re-signed in Denver. He would definitely be the cheaper alternative to re-signing Ling-Lai Pang.

With clearing McLouth off the books, I used most of that salary on four mercenary veteran type batters in SS Shawn Nolan, 1B Francois St. Laurent, OF Gabrielle Clareno and 3B Seisaku Nato. Nolan has been getting the most playing time as the starting SS vs. LHSP. He's 1/10 with 2 Ks thus far and I'm not sure if it's just rust, a very small sample size or the 38-year-old has lost the little hitting ability he once had. He's out there for defense anyways. St. Laurent has also been given two starts vs. LHSP and he is 1/5 with a double, a walk and three strikeouts. Clareno, in his one start, went 2/3 with 3 RBI and a walk. Naito is 0/6 with two walks and three strikeouts. Very small sample sizes but I think they are helping?

Strange indeed considering 47 would only tie him too if not for last season.

                    Speaking of HRs...

Anyone notice the season OF Alex "General" Villarroel is having for Dallas? The 23-year-old 2004 5th overall pick out of HS is on pace for 39 homeruns, as well as 21 doubles, 7 triples, 135 RBI and 96 runs! He can't field a lick but damn...dude can rake.

Just saw Baltimore re-signed Travis Krummen...

And now Ron Wessel is on the trading block...

                        Very interesting.

I tried all season to move Krummen to avoid this situation but no one wanted to take a chance on the kid because he played so poorly this year.

Wessel is such a beast, I have no problem keeping him at 17M though. He's durable with only one relatively minor injury in his entire career. He's Top 10 in VORP and WAR and for the 3rd straight year he's put up Stout Slugger type numbers. 4 POW Awards and a 20 game hit streak this year alone.

His skill set will have him playing well for at least another 3-5 years. It's a chance to save some cash on our end and maybe upgrade other positions or get some talent in a minor league system that needs a little help. A talented infielder like Ron is tough to come across nowadays and everyone knows I'll make a deal if it makes sense for us, regardless of perceived return (or lack thereof).

And before you get on the "he plays in Baltimore" train, I realize he plays significantly better at home, but he was doing this in Indy before he got to Baltimore. He's just a great player.

I've always liked Krummen. I think he has been miscast as 3B/SS though. He's a good fielding 2B, who switch hits, solid eye, avoids Ks and can run. Those guys don't grow on trees so even though he has underperformed I definitely understand you re-signing him. I think if you don't find a willing trade partner for Wessel, you could try shopping Krummen again.

As for Wessel...come on. Because of his "skill set" he will be good for "at least" 3-5 years? Really? What "skill set" is this? I'm interested... He turns 32 in three weeks, and you think he will be playing this well "at least" until he is 37? Projecting longevity is impossible in this game. Remember when you had Antonio Trujillo coming off his career best season? Then you traded him, at 32 (same age of Wessel) for a 1st and a 3rd, and his career kinda fizzled out quietly? I'm not saying you knew that would happen to Trujillo, hell, I tried to sign him myself in the following years of Free-Agency, I'm just saying OOTP isn't always so nice to old guys. Look at the Top Players list in our league. There is one player north of 32.

And as for the whole "playing in Baltimore" how can that train not be boarded? He has a 1.035 OPS at home, in the lefty-friendly confines of Phillips Field, while playing on the road just .726. I know you are tired of me talking about it but it's fact. It's actually a very, very smart strategy that I don't think people realize. You built a team to fit your park. I might even argue no one else has done as good of a job of this in the BLB.

Don't get me wrong...I'm not saying the guy is a bum. He currently ranks as the #2 BLB 2B. He has good contact, great gap power. But he plays in the most lefty friendly park in baseball, he plays on arguably the best lineup (1st in almost all team batting categories in IL) and he hits #2 in front of Victor Alvarez, Teru Chiba and Kokoro Fuji. That has to count for something. Especially for a guy is on pace for just 14 walks...in 153 games.
