Reminder: Please monitor your minor league squads; their seasons have started. There are some very incomplete rosters out there.

Slow start for us. Cash goes down, but that just gives Roark a chance. Bullpen is a little off, but that should right itself soon enough.

If anyone wants Tommy Poe, I will send him out for the best offer I get whatever it is. He's cheap for his production the last few years. You could even start him. I'd like to bring up another young arm to start getting some experience early.

        Pawtucket 3-4.

RF Israel Morales batted better, but expect plenty of growing pains for him this season especially as he struggles to adapt to our anti lefty ballpark. Wences looks sharp, Vega looks like shit. Hey, we didn't expect things to turn around overnight.

Would of liked RP Ivan Bojorquez signing + the CF/RF Tony Cavazos trade to occur this week might of made some difference, but its a long season so no biggie. Ivan has shown in the past he can handle the setup/ closer role even at age 38 and Tony gives our team instant credibility in the outfield. We believe this makes us better. Not great, but better then we were yesterday.

        On the farm:

Mixed results. SP- Talley struggled in a few starts this week, but C Dave Piekarski went completely nuts this week batting .500 and OPS'd 1.179. The other kids a ways off so develop away.

We actually took 2 out of 3 from Windy City but then find a way to lose 4 straight to Los Alamos, 3 of them by 1 run. Apparently Huerta had a meltdown this week and took 2 of those losses.

4-3 week. We split with Cleveland and took 2 of 3 from Pittsburgh. I can get used to these sort of performances.

Team is hitting really well. Pitching is keeping us in games.

Washington Bats - 8-4, 1st Place in Stout; 3-3 Week: 2-1 vs. CAL, 1-2 vs. BAT

The Good: 1B/3B Tyler McLouth extended his BLB leading hit streak to 18 games, which ties his personal best back in 2006. The 32-year-old has battled injuries the past two seasons but is on pace for fourth straight .300+ average season. Hopefully the move to 1B will keep him healthy.

Rookie SP Tyler Salzman threw a gem against California: 6.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB and 8 K in a 3-1 win to move him to 2-0 on the season. The 2003 14th overall pick came into the league with very high expectations, #19 post-draft ranking and 6-7-6 potential from OSA. After a shoulder injury in 2004, expectations have been tempered a bit as his prospect ranking year by year: #46, #55, #22, #80 and #79 this year. OSA now thinks 6-7-4 and my scout thinks he is a mid-rotation starter. The lefty is fragile but at 23-years-old, his start is very promising.O

The Bad: The Bats currently rank 8th in defensive efficiency in the IL. The once defensive proud franchise just doesn't have the athletes in the field anymore. While I expect it to rank better as the year goes on, this is a different era in Washington.

The Ugly: After being ranked top five on the players list the past few years, including last week, OF Pat Ladd takes a HUGE plummet down to #19. I know the list has a lot to do with stats and Ladd has struggled hitting just .146 in the first 12 games, but that drop is scary. Especially when you consider he is fragile, turns 30 in June and is entering year two of a six-year $99M deal.

The Minors: Hooray! Minor league stats! It's only one week but all of my Top 10 prospects, played very, very well.

Next Week: Stout Week! Washington will go on the road to face Seattle and then Morgantown, then finish with four in Death Valley. April is arguably the Bats toughest month on the year. 16 road games, 6 home. Series against potential contenders, Carolina, Batavia and Death Valley. If we can enter May .500, I will be pleased.

Why is Tony Cavazos on waivers? If we were within shouting distance of competing this year I'd already have picked him up...

TJ Dunn is still not in the list...despite being the BLB Home Run King!

I guess he'll have to hit 50 this year to earn a little respect..
