  • Ratings better then potential?

I've noticed several players who have ratings better than their potential. I've never seen this in any of my other leagues only ours. Anyone have any clue as to why that is?

I have a few like that too.

Overachieving? Good coaching? A glitch that will go away with the next patch?

    :?

I think its something thats always been in OOTP. I've always looked at it as a player playing above his potential. I've seen posts that say players will eventually drop back to their potential but havn't observed it enough to know if this is true.

That's funny I haven't seen one player like this in my single player leagues. Yet we have several. I wonder if it has something to do with scouting off?

I'm not sold on how accurate the ratings are. I have guys who are playing WAY above thier heads and guys who are just the opposite. With around 100 AB, I would expect them to be closer to form.

From a sample size arguement, I'd say we're still pretty low. 300ab's would be probably large enough to determine validity. Then again there's always players who play way above their ability during a season and guys who way underachieve.

This could also be attributable to some players being fast starters. There are players in MLB who play over their potential every April because they're fast starters, but they eventually come back down to Earth. Maybe we'll see an equal number of different players overachieving in the second half because they're second half players....

I think part of it might also be the ambiguity of the 2-8 ratings scale. Perhaps these players were right on the edge of two ratings.

Either way, players don't always perform up to their ratings. My closer has stuff and control ratings above his talent right now but hasn't performed that well over his first 10 games.

He looks washed up, I'd trade him to me immediately if I were you.

Maybe he's finding it hard to get in a groove while pitching an average of about once a week.

Maybe you shouldn't have given him that fat contract earlier this season. With all that guaranteed money, no wonder he's been out at Daisy's every night picking up fresh meat.

We'd pitch him more if our offense scored enough runs to give us a lead.

What is this "offense" that you speak of?
