    - WATCH YOUR DFA's please! If you trade for someone make sure you have room on the 40 man or I will have to find someone to DFA.
    - Also if you want someone released then release them. I still go by the principle of trying to find room on your roster for DFA players as I do during the season.
    - Please double check all trades.

Looks like the schedule rotated this season. From checking Opening Day's sim from last season the opening week matchups have switched for most. Good to see.

Preseason predictions are up. Still a few tasty FA's left to grab. The exodus from Washington continues!

Our system dropped from 2nd to 5th, but there's now more prospects who cracked (or re-cracked) the Top 100:

      Pitchers:

      SP Angulo (6th)
      SP Pulido (20th)
      CL Ochoa (35th)
      SP Marrujo (55th)
      SP Guardian (74th)

      Hitters:

      OF Garza (40th)
      C Richardson (83rd)
      OF Berry (98th)
      OF Bryan (99th)

I think we'll see CF Alex Godinez and SP Tyler Clarke on the list eventually.

We're pretty much all set for the season and will make a run at our 3rd Stout title in 4 seasons.

There are definitely some bats out there, I'm surprised they haven't been scooped up by some of the just below .500 teams with a little extra scratch. We have the money for one more, but not really the roster space to add anyone since I'm sticking to this youth movement.

      Offseason Activity:

      IN:

      SS Dusty Simmons (Trade-PIT)
      C Danny Torres (FA)
      Lefty Specialist Nestor Aguilar (FA-resigned)
      CF Alex Godinez (Trade-DEN)

      OUT:

      IF Dave Santoyo (Trade-NYK)
      SP Travis Hoffman (Trade-Den)
      1B Wessin Ramirez (FA)

      Rookies to Watch:

      SP Adrian Pulido
      SP Fernando Olivares
      CL Tom Bell
      OF Dave Bryan
      3B Alex Gomez

Pulido will enter the season as the #3 starter, replacing team favorite Travis Hoffman.

Meanwhile, Fernando Olivares will fight for a spot in the rotation after going 14-6 with a 2.68 ERA in AAA at the age of 26. Now 27, he'll get the opportunity as we've been pretty patient.

Tom Bell will begin the season in the bullpen groomed by Edgar Fajardo and RJ Manning to become the next great Scorpions closer. He may even find himself in the rotation if lefty relievers Dave Porter and Nestor Aguilar pitch at the same high level as last season.

Future leadoff hitter Dave Bryan looks to be the heir apparent in RF, but will spend the season as primarily a pinch hitter and base stealer as a 4th/5th OF.

Slugger Alex Gomez is penciled in as the starter at 3B and should provide some pop to the bottom of the order.

Stout Slugger '08 (Jones) '15 (McCarley)

Zac Gaston signed with Maine on a one-year, $11 million contract.

Happy and grateful to get him. We expect he'll platoon at DH with William Lehnhardt.

Added our final pieces to the offseason puzzle...

Signed OF Gabriele Clareno to a 1 year deal worth $11.5M. This is his first real pay day after becoming a late bloomer with Washington.

Clareno will be the table setter this year as we are expected to hit a lot of home runs with Dunn, Connolly, and Quinn. This move will shift Quinn to DH and our outfield will consist of Clareno, Connolly, and Culler.

Also added 4th OF Darryl Garner. He hasn't played in the bigs since 2005 and we aren't sure why. He was listed as a catcher but a second glance shows him as an average LF. What made him attractive to us was his ability to get on base. His on base percentage in AAA last year was .419 but it still wasn't good enough for Philly to call him up.

Garner will see a lot of action against left handed pitchers. It's his big break to finally get a regular day job in the bigs.

Hmmm, woke up this morning to signing RP Edgar Salazar even though I swear I pulled the offer off the table. Its ok, my scout thinks he can be a nice setup guy. Actually going into this season with a much improved bullpen.

Also woke up to the 4th best system in the BLB: 4 hitters and 3 pitchers. With 6 picks (Possibly less with a trade pending the Intl players) in the first two rounds have to say we seem to be going in the right direction.

Have just enough money to add to the BLB roster a player or two so still expecting the opening day roster to be a just a bit different.

Players to watch for call up: Have this crazy looking 1B in Tom Smith(AAA). My scout has his pot for contact at 7 with his actual being a 6 yet calls him a "fringe player" . If he starts batting over .300 might see a callup early. SP- Troy Donovan(AAA) a former 6th rounder from WC is flying up the charts. Still like to see his control improve, but will take a close look at him around Allstar Break. Always seems a 6th rounder or two hits in each draft class. Very strange. Finally C Dave Piekarski(AA) current #7 prospect my scout thinks he should be in AAA, while I can see this happening mid season he needs to develop his power some and even if the "light" turns on the earliest he would see any BLB time is September. My hunch says 2009.

If I was to take an early guess at next year 64-66 wins. Bad, but better.

Editors notes: Troy was a 7th rounder so ignore the 6th rounders seem to hit thing. Lol.

Also appears the draft class for next season appears minus the Intl players.

You've won two of three titles...and Washington hasn't won since 2004. Don't understand the hate.

I think this is a great signing. Of all the players I had to let go this off-season he was the toughest. Had I not had so much OF depth the past two years he would have been a full-time starter. I think he should have a great year for your team.

Sure wish you would have traded for him when he was headed to arbitration for $5M...

I don't think Spear cares about spending. In his eyes he got him for free.

Besides he has no draft picks to give you. Those are owned by Pawtucket at the moment.

                    Public Service Announcement!
                    1. All teams need to have full coaching staffs by the time the minor league season's begin. Still a few teams out there, mine included, that need to sign a few coaches.

                    2. Keep your eye's on the waiver wire the next 3+ sims. There tends to be a LOT of talent that gets waived due to teams having Spring Training eligible players who are out of option years. Every year there are a handful of guys worth snatching. A lot from Washington, usually.

                    3. There is a lot of Free-Agent talent left...some asking for a lot less than when the Off-Season first began. I recommend every team with a little spending room to reassess their team and what's available.

                    4. Good luck to all in Spring Training! Remember to set your lineups, depth charts and pitching staffs to your liking for the exhibition games.

New Orleans is far worse than last year, but at least we're younger. We've also jettisoned all the older filler-scrubs we signed for our minors last season and replaced them with younger filler-scrubs.
