Any crash course guides available on judging players' HOF worthiness, or at least definitions of what those "career metrics" on the page mean?

I think this is more confusing than it needs to be for someone starting off:

I say you look at the career stats of the players and make a decision.

I wouldn't necessarily pay too close attention to those Career Metrics figures if you're not familiar with the ideas behind them. Dig deeper into the cumulative/counting stats as well as the comparison stats (OPS+, Win Shares, etc). It's a great way to learn the history of the league, imo, to dig through stats and try to determine where a given player ranks overall in the grand scheme of things.
