    I appreciate it.

And don't get me wrong, I don't feel like anyone HAS to return the guys. It's a consequence of a mistake I made (although I'm SURE I put them on there, since I was looking at the game late last night figuring out options for the future), so I'll live with it.

        1. Sorry Delandis. That sucks. I've said it the past few years and I'll say it again...let's ditch the Rule V. It's competitive, fun for most, and gets new blood in the league...but I swear there are one or two veteran managers that make a mistake every year...

        2. For the first time in awhile, Washington did not lose a single player to Rule V draft. Not sure if that's a good thing because I didn't lose anyone...or a bad thing because I don't have as much talent anymore. I almost left a few guys off the 40 but was checking it furiously into yesterday.

        3. With our one Rule V draft selection the Washington Bats select closer Alex Otero. 22-years-old, former 2nd round pick from Wilmington. OSA says 6-4-6 potential, my scout 6-4-5. Doesn't seem like someone good enough to make the Bats roster...well that's because I'm going to try him and 2B/3B! I remember seeing him as more of a hitter than a pitcher during the 2002 draft. OSA has his hitting potential 5-7-3-7-5, my scout 6-7-2-6-5. He has defensive ratings of 6-6-4-5. He has base running abilities of 7-8-8. He bats lefty and he's very intelligent. He's a long shot to make our roster out of Spring Training but he's worth a look.

        4. Landed our new manager, former Toronto Canadiens manager, John O'Kerrigan. He is a big upgrade over the last two guys I've thrown out there at manager. He's expensive, but I think he's worth it.

        5. Signed All-Star Pat Ladd to a contract extension. He was headed to his last arbitration year and I thought it would be a good time to see what he's willing to re-sign for. His arbitration estimate was for $12.5 next year. I signed him to a four year $15.5/per deal, with two team options at $18 and $19. Reasonable. Hometown discount from the kid born in Washington, DC.

        6. And with zero budget room...the Rule V draft over...my minor leagues full...I wait...

Perhaps more notably, he's a former Maine Guides manager.

I just personally hate the gotcha! aspect of the thing. I don't begrudge anyone who decides to take advantage of someone else's misfortune. At this point it's kind of league tradition. I'm just making a personal choice. Next time you see me, you can buy me a beer.

I'm guessing you at some point re-exported and overwrote your Rule 5 changes? Your export took because it looks like some FA offers (at least one) was picked up. That obviously can't happen without a file being imported.

                    I'm guessing so.

But when I made that trade for Krummen, Minas was on my 40 man because I was debating on whether to promote him to the show. But like I said, the precedence had been set long ago by Clay so like you said, it's tradition to use Rule V like this.

I didn't lose any one in the rule 5 draft this year, but I agree that it should probably go away or we institute a rule that says top 100 guys are never eligible for the rule 5.

It really takes some of the realism out because what team in their right mind would let a top 100 guy walk for nothing. Or like what happened to me when my starting catcher got drafted by Linty when I first joined the league. He was on my active roster and had started almost the whole season before the rule 5 but was still able to be drafted.

EDIT: I also want to hop on what Sully said, I thought we agreed not to take anyone from NO and PITT, so I did not add anyone from their teams to my list even though wanted to. Even though Boughner is not on the realm of the guys Delandis is talking about that he lost, Boughner should still be returned to NO for the new owner.

Really liked that kid. Why he isn't batting is beyond me.

                        Delandis,

I sent a 21 person list out. Think he was #4, but I'll have to check. You do know this isn't even a top 100 prospect we are talking about?

I have no issue with "its a mistake" and I can send him back, but then I'm taking another guy off my list from some team who drafted them.(probably Pats draft pick if I remember my list) No way having the #1 pick is Pawtucket walking away empty handed on this one.

I'll look at it when I go home later.

                        In other news:

Signed the only kid I cared about Intl SP- Enrique Andujar. He's still young (26) and my scout rates him at 5-6-6. Will cost me alot at first, but our payroll is pretty low at the moment. He could be our vet when we are competing again.

Did ended up drafting the #99 prospect RF Rod Martin in round 4 of rule V. Kind of cool, but he hasn't performed much in the minors. Perhaps a "push" is needed. Got great power if anything.

We also drafted a "former" Pale Award winner in Ruben Aparacio. 5-5-5, do your best kid.

As for rule V, sure we can get rid of it. God knows I have a billion picks coming up and I'm a slow cooker but we all know people's minor league systems will end up clogged.
