      I have a question.
Pat claims Terry Pastore, a guy out of options that I must pass through waivers before he can be sent down. Immediately after the claim is processed, he's playing in AAA Auburn for the Bats organization. Why do we allow that? Shouldn't Pat have to pass him through waivers to send him down? I'm sure there's other cases, I just noticed this one cause it involved my player.

Yes, I think it's a bug in the new version. There are others. In the old versions they had to go to your active roster and be waived again and clear.

I did this with Noell from WC. I didn't know it worked until I tried it last sim.

            I 100% agree.

When I saw Pastore, and others, on the waiver wire, I figured they were being moved because teams needed to create space on their 40 man, not because they were out of option years. Anyone I claimed in the past few sims that are out of option years, I will send back.

Sorry for the headache this causes the teams, Matt or Brad.

            I'll start making a list.

I thought since they aren't on the 40 man roster it didn't matter especailly if they are "minor league contacts" if they are getting "paid" then they MUST be on your 40 man roster.

Once the player is on the 40 man roster then you need to clear him.

Never knew it was a bug and its not just since this version.

                I think funclown is right.

If the guys aren't on the 40-man and have minor league contracts they don't need to clear waivers.

If they have a major league contract, they must be placed on the 40-man roster once claimed and must then clear waivers if you want to demote them without options.

If they aren't on the 40 man they wouldn't need to clear waivers to begin with. You can't have a guy on your active roster without him being on the 40 man as well.

These are all players that are out of option years and were Rule V draft eligible. Therefore to protect them from the Rule V, teams placed them on the 40 man roster. When ST hits all players on the 40 man roster are added to the active roster. If they are removed from the active roster before the opening day sim, they remain on a minor league contract. But I don't think it's then fair that I can claim those players, and place them in my minor leagues free of charge.

Pretty sure he was on my 40 man. Was with us in Spring Training. He's horrible, and I really don't care if I get him back. He's nothing more than a minor league depth player. I was just curious why I needed to clear him, but a claiming team did not.

He was the 11th overall pick in 2000. #39 prospect in '01 and #96 in 02. I think he has platoon potential at 1B/DH. He's worth a minor league roster spot.

                          There's a miscommunication.

If you DFA a player on your 40-man, you are removing him from the 40-man roster.

If a team claims that player, the player is not part of anyone's 40-man roster. That player is free to be moved anywhere so long as he has a minor league contract.

Nothing is being done wrong there.

As for those guys being Rule 5 players, teams are protecting them to protect them. You aren't supposed to be placing guys on your 40-man to simply protect and move on.

If a team is trying to DFA a guy they only placed on the 40-man to keep away from the Rule 5, they are essentially skirting the entire process. Not saying it's illegal but that's not what the 40-man is for in baseball. It's not a transaction page to send guys on and off. It's to field a roster of players available to you during the season.

The fact another team picks that player up from waivers is the point. You should be claiming a guy you want to actually play.

But it's a game so we obviously do things a bit differently.
