5-1 week including a three-game sweep of Pawtucket.

Pittsburgh also went 5-1 and is three games behind in the Ale. We have a three-game series at their place to start this week before finishing up with four at Hartford.

I feel optimistic, and we have a few games of padding.

Still, a week on the road to finish the year is challenging.

            Death Valley (110-46)
            This Week: 7-0
            3-0 vs Batavia
            4-0 vs Wilmington

            The Good:

*We look to be rolling again, just in time for the playoffs. A 7-0 week was big for us, especially getting all 3 against Batavia. Though, in Matt's defense, he didn't throw his best arms this week in Parra and Farq. Meanwhile, I threw Poe, Manhos and Torres in an effort to set-up my playoff rotation.

*We once again went with the unconventional 7 starter rotation this week and it worked better than ever. My starters threw 50 innings and gave up just 7 ERs. 6 out of 7 got wins. The bullpen wasn't far behind, they only gave up a single ER this week.

*Danny Herrera (7 hits 5 runs) and Pat Marlin (7 hits 8 RBIs) were terrific with Colin Cash out. They split time in CF and gave us a nice lift with their depth.

*SS Tex Watts may wind up our offensive MVP. He's up to #11 on the Top Players list, and went 8-for-19 with another 2 homers, 9 walks and 10 runs scored.

            The Bad:

*Nothing. This season is all gravy at this point and the most fun I've had in a league in a long, long time. I know everyone thinks I'm nuts at this point, but I really thought we were a 88-90 win team. I never thought I'd be 20 games up on Pat and be able to hold off the Windy City monster the entire regular season.

            Coming Up:
            3 at Morgantown
            3 at Washington

We finish up our season on the road in the Stout. We're fortunate to have opened up a 6 game lead on Windy City with 6 left. That allows us to ease up a bit and get things settled for my first playoff series since 1999 in Hartford.

Robby English will start twice this week, Shane Kroyer is back this week from his injury, and Colin Cash will be ready to go 1st game of the playoffs.

Zack Reeves picked up his first BLB win, pitching 8 shutout innings of 3-hit ball in a 2-0 win over Syracuse. That was about the only bright spot this week.

Three highly touted rookies have seen BLB action this year for the Snappers, and have all performed well. Jimmy Rosema, Jamie Wentworth, and Zack Reeves have given us a glimmer of hope for the future.

We came into this season as the hunted, we now are the hunter. I kind of like the position we're in. Our PYT stands at -12 but things have seemed to settle down a bit. We're looking forward to the playoffs now.

Herberholz had one of the best seasons of all time from what I can see (especially if you remove the fake seasons by Ironshit) He'll win the triple crown not just in the IL but the BLB. He pitched what may be the greatest game of all time and followed it up with a second 15 K performance. Good to see the first piece of our rebuilding project come into his own. Although he's still only "Well Known" and my scout says he'll be a stud someday....even though he's 32.

Speaking of triple crowns...or in this case almost triple crowns very happy with the season Victor Robles has had. Winning 2/3 isn't too shabby. I remember when he slid a little to us in the draft I felt like we stole something. Didn't see this coming though.

Finally Tom "Demo" Oshman squeaks into the top players list. He has had the 2nd best second half on our team. I've always felt like he's under performed but at age 27 might be getting it finally.

Lot's of great stats, great players, but it won't mean anything if we don't win in the playoffs. The top of the IL is brutal. We'll be lucky to win anything. DVS looks like the team of destiny but the other contenders could all easily win as well. It's a crapshoot.

Perfect recipe for us to blow out in the 1st round. Seen it too many times before. You have the best 3 pitchers and 2 of the top 3 hitters. You're the playoff team to beat.

We do not match-up well with you. You have 3 amazing strikeout pitchers. We strike out a lot. That's why we can't score on you.

There are only three teams in the league with 2 top-25 hitters and 3 top-25 pitchers. I guess the reason that two of those teams are talked about so much is because of their win totals. But we only have one Denver in the DL and you guys get to beat up on 4 or 5 absolutely dreadful teams over in the IL.

You can play the IL-DL slighted game all day Dave. IL is top heavy, DL has better teams 1-7/8. We all know win totals in the playoffs don't mean anything.

Elite starters matter in the playoffs. Which is why I would put you as the favorite in the DL with Crudge-AMart-Curtis and picked you to win your division before the season even started. You can win any 7 game series with those 3 pitchers and you do have Morris and Yamamoto.

It's not like you're this big, slighted bunch in the DL. Injuries hurt all the DL teams this season. Maine, Pitt, Pawtucket, Cuse, Indy all lost some of their best players this season. You had Curtis and Crudge out to start. You guys have been playing against injury depleted rosters all year creating parity. Isn't that a part of it too?

I'd be happy to take the Ale, play the Pilsner winner in the first round, and have Raulo Gutierrez back for a potential DLCS showdown with New Orleans or Pittsburgh's pitchers.

Though we've had a ton of trouble with Syracuse this year for some reason...

I was curious, so I checked....

Against Morgantown, Wilmington, Carolina, Los Alamos, Davenport, and Philadelphia:

Windy City is 45 games over .500
Death Valley is 42 games over .500

Wilmington and Carolina also have better winning % against the DL than the IL.

That and the fact that the DL sucks seals the case.
