Huge week in the IL. Playoff atmosphere all around.
WAS @ DVS (4) - Season Series: DVS 8 WAS 6
DuFour being out has a big impact on this series. Looks like DVS will see Hanback-Bornemann-Campos-Downs. Does Pat move Skinner up or leave him for Baltimore? Does he skip Hanback, bring up someone off the 40 man, and throw Hanback and Skinner (his 2 best starters) at BAL? This week is about strategy as much as the games themself. Cy Gray and Jeremiah Kelly return to WAS, what kind of spark do they provide with their veteran presence and defense?
Does DVS throw Coma against WAS in a surprise move to see what the kid has against the team that will define his career? How does the Scorpion rotation match-up against that strong WAS line-up at home? The DVS line-up has produced against the weaker teams, but they're yet to really show up in the big game series against the better rotations in the league. Where have Ian Reynolds, Agustin Perales and Dave Santoyo been? They need to help Watts, Cash and Salcedo if the Scorpions hope to make some noise in the playoffs.
Prediction: WAS 2 DVS 2
BAT @ BAL (4) - Season Series: BAT 9 BAL 5
It's looking like Batavia is going to miss Keifer, who's been an amazing acquisition for the Bulldogs. The turning point of the season could very well be when California traded away Travis Fisher and Prez went and stole Keifer from Wilmington. Keifer is 6-1 with a 2.42 ERA in Baltimore, spearheading their charge up the standings.
Batavia has stumbled through August at 14-13, but the young arms are holding steady and the presence of waiver claim Dewitt Pierce has worked well for Matt. Gutierrez, though expensive in terms of what was given up in the trade, has done almost everything he was meant to do. He's brought some pop to the middle of the line-up with 22 homers. Jon Montalbo's 30 homers provide a nice one-two punch.
Prediction: BAT 2 BAL 2
No one gains ground on the front end of the week. But things shift a little on the back end, as Baltimore and Washington come out of the biggest week of the year tied for the Wildcard.
The rest of the week:
DVS @ CAL (3)
WAS @ BAL (3)
BAT @ DAV (3)
