  • IL Throwdown (Week 23)

Huge week in the IL. Playoff atmosphere all around.

    WAS @ DVS (4) - Season Series: DVS 8 WAS 6

DuFour being out has a big impact on this series. Looks like DVS will see Hanback-Bornemann-Campos-Downs. Does Pat move Skinner up or leave him for Baltimore? Does he skip Hanback, bring up someone off the 40 man, and throw Hanback and Skinner (his 2 best starters) at BAL? This week is about strategy as much as the games themself. Cy Gray and Jeremiah Kelly return to WAS, what kind of spark do they provide with their veteran presence and defense?

Does DVS throw Coma against WAS in a surprise move to see what the kid has against the team that will define his career? How does the Scorpion rotation match-up against that strong WAS line-up at home? The DVS line-up has produced against the weaker teams, but they're yet to really show up in the big game series against the better rotations in the league. Where have Ian Reynolds, Agustin Perales and Dave Santoyo been? They need to help Watts, Cash and Salcedo if the Scorpions hope to make some noise in the playoffs.

    Prediction: WAS 2 DVS 2

    BAT @ BAL (4) - Season Series: BAT 9 BAL 5

It's looking like Batavia is going to miss Keifer, who's been an amazing acquisition for the Bulldogs. The turning point of the season could very well be when California traded away Travis Fisher and Prez went and stole Keifer from Wilmington. Keifer is 6-1 with a 2.42 ERA in Baltimore, spearheading their charge up the standings.

Batavia has stumbled through August at 14-13, but the young arms are holding steady and the presence of waiver claim Dewitt Pierce has worked well for Matt. Gutierrez, though expensive in terms of what was given up in the trade, has done almost everything he was meant to do. He's brought some pop to the middle of the line-up with 22 homers. Jon Montalbo's 30 homers provide a nice one-two punch.

    Prediction: BAT 2 BAL 2

No one gains ground on the front end of the week. But things shift a little on the back end, as Baltimore and Washington come out of the biggest week of the year tied for the Wildcard.

    The rest of the week:

    DVS @ CAL (3)
    WAS @ BAL (3)
    BAT @ DAV (3)

      Nice post.

The DuFour injury isn't a huge impact on the sim, as he would only be scheduled for one start. However, if he misses multiple sims, or is out for the year, it's a devastating injury. I have a few surprises up my sleeve that I hope can give me an edge for both series. However, I think with all seven games this week on the road, I don't feel good about it. Prediction: 1-3 @ DVS, 1-2 @ BAL.

      Good luck UMD and Delandis.

No surprises here. What you see is what you get. We will call up a couple of youngsters but they will only be there for added defense and speed on the bases.

The only thing that may really impact on the sim from our point of view, will be the return of Alex Gomez. If he's rusty, we will struggle against Batavia. However, Alex has never really been one that needed to knock off too much rust.

There's a lot of 90's irony this week with it being you, me, Matt and Prez in these matchups. To think, there was a chance not too long ago that Matt, Prez and I wouldn't have even been in the BLB anymore.

Like I said, I have a few tricks up my sleeve...but majority of the expanded roster call-ups aren't them. Those guys are pitching depth, defensive replacements, pinch hitters and pinch runners. If they were good enough to start regularly, they would have been called up before this week. Trust me. I need all the help I can get.

By spoiler I really hope you mean lose all of the rest of our games to spoil Washington's chances.

Could really go either way. Giving a look at some guys I picked up off the waiver wire in Antonio Solano and T.J. Richardson... want to see if they can fit into future plans or not... especially Solano who may be ticketed as the everyday RF'er if he proves his worth down the stretch.
