    Bats Transaction News!

Signed slugger Antonio Cardenas to an extension. He originally wanted an 8-year, $18 per deal. Getting him at three guaranteed years, $16-$18, team options for $19 and $20. Also signed shortstop JP Loesch. I think he is good enough to start at SS vs. RHP.

McP back to #2 as he settles into AA. Verba slides down to his rightful #3. All-Star Marshburn up to #15.

Denver lost more games than it won.

Things are right in the world.

5-1 for us, including 2 big wins over Batavia and finally got hold of a broom to get that Philly monkey off our back. We are rolling offensively but I doubt that our pitching can hold us.

Although rookie starter, Jimmy Whitworth looked f'n amazing going 2-0, 17 IP, 1.59 ERA, .88 WHIP, 18 K and just 2 BB. I knew he had talent but DAMN.

Still 9-5 vs Balt. That 1-17 season is long gone.

Just trying to catch Cali and Washington. We're only 5.5 out now, so keep a winning record against those two, please.

                  Death Valley (70-28)
                  This Week: 3-3
                  1-2 vs WC
                  2-1 vs Davenport

                  The Good:

*We finally win one vs Windy City (1-5) and manage to cling to a 5 game lead over them. We get out of the week maintaining a 14.5 lead on Washington which was our goal.

*Migdonio Manhos picks up his 3rd win in 5 starts, with a 5.2 inning win over Davenport 3-1. He's now started 5 games, pitched 34 innings, has an ERA of 1.59 and a WHIP 0.82 for a 11.9 VORP and 1.0 WAR. I'll take it.

*Slumping Tommy Poe gets a 10-0 win over the Brawlers as well, striking out 10 and giving up no runs on 4 hits in 7 innings.

*Ian Reynolds added 2 more homers to his total. Watts and Salcedo continue to roll offensively.

*There was even a Dave Santoyo sighting. He hit .316 with 4 runs and 3 RBIs.

                  The Bad:

*We really have no answer for the Playboys. They're just too good, it's going to be near impossible to beat them in the playoffs. We trotted out what I thought was our 3 best options against them in Wences, Lindsey and Torres and they didn't get it done.

*Alex Torres goes down for 2 weeks. We could bring up Coma, or just insert Amaral back in the rotation. I need to think it over. I don't think I need to start his clock just yet, but I also know he's going to need some settling in time. Do I want it to be now, or September and next season?

*Our bullpen was unimpressive, which is unusual.

*Colin Cash and Agustin Perales have struggled recently.

                  Coming Up:
                  4 at Philly
                  3 at Batavia

We'll have to do some adjusting of the rotation this sim, our pitching depth gives us the luxury of not stressing too much. We can't look past Philly, but that Batavia series on the back end is intimidating. This could be a dangerous week for us. Hopefully Tex Watts has a homecoming to remember to start the week.

We're still shopping Omar Maldonado. Like to move him. Not looking for the world, so you may get a bargain.

Thrilled to go 4-2 this week. The same boneheads in the bullpen are still having the same bad games. I keep waiting for them to snap out of it. Still we're under .500 for the month. We are quietly struggling. That 5 game lead that DVS has on us won't seem to go away even when we beat them. Plus Batavia is right there too. Gonna have to come to grips that we likely will have 3 100+ win teams in the IL this year, and we may be a 3 seed.

Tony Perez started as a closer the same age Denver's all-time saves leader Merlin Thompson did.

Perez has more saves at this point than Thompson did. With two years left on his deal, he could surpass him at the same age Merlin was eventually dealt to a competitor.

Arguably the worst trade I've ever made.
