Who is your 1st half MVP?
3B Antonio Cardenas - He is now hitting at a .872 OPS and playing DWI defense at 3B. What more could I ask for?
Who/what is your biggest surprise?
SP Nick Cortes - Despite a 5-7 record he is on pace for 2.74 ERA, 180 IP, 1.02 WHIP and 4.6 WAR. Not bad for a guy my scout thinks is "mop-up" quality.
Who/what is your biggest disappointment?
The fall of P Tom Downs. He lead the IL in ERA in 2002 and 2003...had a solid 2004, got hurt for the year...and now he can't start. He was always a fringe starter but it's a big letdown that the guy who I'm paying $9M this year is my least valuable pitcher.
What is the best move (FA, trade, waiver) you made?
I missed the end of season export last year to decline team options so I was left way over budget going into Free-Agency and into the season. So my best move was trading RP JJ Black to Windy City with a 3rd for a 2nd and 4th. Not a huge get, and he goes to a team I may face in the playoffs, but clearing the money was worth it. I have depth at RP, flexibility financially and got a decent draft pick out of it.
Biggest surprise in IL/DL?
DVS and Dallas
Best team in each league?
Windy City and Pittsburgh (if the injuries stop)
New Brew first half? IL/DL Best pitcher first half? IL/DL Best hitter first half? IL/DL
