  • Building a Roster

    Since the weather has been pretty crappy here, I've turned on my PS3 for the first time in months and fired up The Show. One of the things I always liked was how you could see where your team came from on one of the sub-menus. Were they drafted, FA, Rule 5 or trade acquisitions? Being so amazingly bored (and unable to sleep), I decided to try it with my BLB team and this is what I found.

    Death Valley:

    *FA-Free Agent
    *DC-Drafted by him
    *DU-Drafted by me
    *T-Trade
    *R5-Rule 5
    *W-Waivers

    Rotation:

    1.SP - A. Torres (FA)
    2.SP - B. Lindsey (DC)
    3.SP - T. Wences (FA)
    4.SP - M. Manhos (T MAI)
    5.SP - T. Hoffman (W CAR)
    6.SP - Z. Amaral (DC)
    ___________________
    7.SP - T. Poe (T DEN)

    Bullpen:

    MR-D.Porter (R5 SYR)
    MR-D. Atkins (FA)
    MR-R. Kimpton (W WAS)
    MR-B. Bonilla (DC)
    CL-O. Maldonado (FA)
    CL-M. Aaron (T DAL)
    CL-R. Manning (DC)
    CL-E. Fajardo (T TOR)

    Position Players:

    C - A. Perales (T CAR)
    C - S. Kroyer (DC)
    1B - D. Salcedo (DC)
    1B - D. Allende (T SYR)
    2B - C. Reed (T BAL)
    SS - T. Watts (T PHI)
    SS - T. Kroeker (T LOS)
    3B - D. Santoyo (T CAR)
    3B - E. Flores (R5 LAD)

    LF - I. Reynolds (T TOR)
    LF - T. DiMaggio (T SYR)
    CF -C. Cash (DC)
    CF - D. Herrera (T TOR)
    RF - H. Marin (T CAR)
    RF - C. Walton (FA)

    Totals:
    FA = 5
    DC = 7
    DU = 0
    T = 13
    W = 2
    R5 = 2

    I'll try to do some other teams. I'm interested in seeing everyone's style. We all kind of know what each other likes to do, but it looks different (to me at least) when it's presented this way.

    Figured Funclown's circus style atmosphere in Pawtucket would be a good first look other than my own team. Here's the roster of the Mad Clown. Never one to hold onto his draft picks for very long, the mad scientist of the BLB will dip heavily into FA to plug holes and trade away his picks for young players or guys in their prime.

    Pawtucket Patriots:

    *FA-Free Agent
    *D-Drafted
    *T-Trade
    *R5-Rule 5
    *W-Waivers

    Rotation:

    1.SP - J. Burns (T CAR)
    2.SP - J. Cosio (FA)
    3.SP - W. Gomez (T BAT)
    4.SP - T. Gerard (T HAR)
    5.SP - J. Roldan (FA)

    Bullpen:

    MR - C. Kelley (R5 WAS)
    MR - R. Mitchell (D)
    MR - N. Aguilar (?)
    CL - A. Gonzales (T WC)
    CL - D. Romero (T DAL)
    CL - C. Russell (FA)
    CL - V. Rivera (T WIL)
    Position Players:

    C - P. Gould (FA)
    C - P. Harrison (FA)
    1B - L. Memmoli (T MAI)
    1B - B. Babilo (FA)
    2B - T. Boyce (D)
    2B - T. Vreeland (FA)
    2B - D. Fonseca (FA)
    3B - T. Jimenez (T WIL)
    SS - O. Saucedo (?)

    LF - T. Quinn (D)
    LF - D. Jennings (FA)
    CF - I. Cervantes (FA)
    CF - T. Stucker (D)
    RF - T. Tammany (T LOS)
    RF - Z. Gaston (T WIL)

    Totals:
    FA = 11
    D = 4
    T = 9
    W = 0?
    R5 = 1
    ? = 2

      Pat always drafts so well you'd think he was cheating, especially how he's been able to package picks to move up in rounds (Tyler McLouth controversy anyone?) to get guys he wants. He'll also make moves for established players (Cardenas) or up and comers (Downs/Skinner) when he needs to.

        Jistic spent years building up his system. You can see that throughout his roster as his players are finally all reaching the BLB at the same time.

          Lol. Good stuff UMD.

          Nestor was a waiver trade from LA.

          Saucedo was a prospect trade from Los Alamos.

          Cosio is interesting since he was a throw in prospect from Morgantown for Victor Gonzales, then traded to Carolina for Quinn and Tom V who were prospects at the time, then back to us as a free agent. Even Victor is back (In AAA)!

          Circle of life.

                Building a Roster

                Tried this with my team.

                Denver Bulls:

                *FA-Free Agent
                *D-Drafted
                *T-Trade
                *R5-Rule 5
                *W-Waivers

                Rotation:

                1.SP - T. Gentner (T MAI)
                2.SP - Y. Tameike (D)
                3.SP - V. Ledbetter (D)
                4.SP - Z. Mueller (D)
                5.SP - D. Melgoza (D)

                Bullpen:

                MR - D. Carter (D)
                MR - T. Daywalt (D)
                MR - R. Malone (D)
                MR - J. Benge (D)
                MR - E. Parra (D)
                MR - O. Mens (FA - originally acquired via T PHI)
                CL - T. Perez (T CAL)

                Position Players:

                C - T. Cesare (FA - originally acquired via D)
                C - J. Porter (D)

                1B - W. Ramirez (FA - originally acquired via D)
                1B/2B - T. Ashley (R5)
                2B/SS - O. Zarco (T BAL)
                SS - A. Haines (FA)
                SS - A. Patton (FA)
                3B - C. Melson (FA - originally acquired via D)
                3B - J. Vawter (R5)

                OF - M. Acevedo (T BAL)
                OF - P. Barajas (W BAL)
                OF - S. Marshburn (FA)
                OF - H. Duarte (FA)
                OF - D. Young (FA)
                OF - J. Linesman (FA)
                OF - N. Kobayashi (W DAL)

                We've mostly drafted our pitchers which is not unusual for me. I've always felt more comfortable taking pitchers in the draft.

                Everywhere else is mostly free agency as we've been trading much much less these days.

                  OF - D. Martinez (FA-minor league)
                  OF - A. Barrios (T-PHI)
                  OF - D. Crews (FA-minor league)
                  OF - A. Hamilton (T-CAR)

                  Contrary to popular belief, Baltimore rarely uses FA to fill spots on the roster. As seen above, we are basically a draft and trade team. We mix in a few FA and waiver pick ups but those are usually call ups from minor league contracts.
