Baltimore Bulldogs (27-32, 5 GB in WC)
    5-2 for the week
    3-1 vs. LAM
    2-1 vs DAV
    • With the two little ones, I haven't had time to do one of these in a WHILE. We've looked good of late, even pulled out a winning record in May. We are only 5 games out of WC and it looks like neither Cali or Washington want to lose in the first round.

    The Good
    • Danny Martinez keeps tearing it up, .444/.483/1.223 for the week? The kid plays like he has a chip on his shoulder and we want him to keep on playing like this.

    • I really think grabbing future HOF, Pat Dimmick in our trade with Dallas has settled down our bullpen. Not only is Dimmick posting a 0.84 ERA, but other members of the pen have responded particularly Dave Doggett and Alex Rovira who racked up a 24 K in just over 15 innings of relief work.

    • Another promising pickup has been the minor league signing of former Pittsburgh slugger, Dave Crews. Crews has been amazing so far with an OPS of .913 with 6 home runs in just 30 games. He's just one more reason the Bulldogs just keep hanging around.

    The Bad
    • Both Sadaharu Katsura and Todd Taylor got massacred this week as these two starters gave up 11 of the 22 earned runs allowed this past week. I don't expect this to happen often with these two but its a bit disheartening when your best two starters don't even give you a chance.

    The Farm
    • We've got a couple of guys in AAA that I am just not sure what kind of big league pitchers they will become. Ruedas, Uribe, and Whitworth all seem like they are just about ready to make that jump. However, it doesn't look like we'll have the room.

    The Week Ahead
    • Nextinter-divisional play against the Ale. This is probably the perfect week for us to have it as Al Hamilton comes off the DL and rather than have him wallow around in AAA, we'll just let him DH for the week to knock off the rust. Last time though he came off the DL there was no rust so we hope that his talent shows up early again.

Yeah thanks for that. Porter roughed us up this week.

At least we are finally back to full strength this week with Ingle returning from the DL.

3-3 this week. Offense is struggling. Calling up Rosema. Latest scouting report bumped him up to a 6 in contact and he's batting over .300 at AAA. We need a spark.

            1. We are heading to Maine and Hartford.

            2. He's Al Hamilton. Your park is irrelevant.

            3. You are holding up the draft.

                  Batavia 38-19

                  2-1 vs. WC
                  3-0 vs. Carolina

After getting crushed by DV, who was crushed by WC, the Muckdogs go to WC and take 2 of 3. The 1st game, on the last day of May, was a pitching duel that Batavia stole 1-0. Gonzalez pitched 8 shutout innings before Magana comes in and loads the bases with 2 outs before striking out Travis Krummen to end the game. On the other side of the field Travis Neal threw 8 innings, struck out 11, but gave up 1 earned run in the loss.

Overall for the week Batavia had a 1.87 ERA which made up for some ice cold hitting. Jon Montalbo managed only 2 hits in 6 games while striking out 16 times. His bash brother Jon Gutierrez stepped up though and hit .333/.417/.810 with 3 HR's. He's now halfway to last years HR total and has helped Batavia hit 64 total HR's on the year, #2 in the BLB. Not bad for a team that's only gone over 100 HR's once in the last seven seasons.

Shannon Roberts, who hit 28 HR's in '02, will start for the ice cold Montalbo at 1B this week to let Jon get his head right. Roberts looked like a rising star before a hip injury derailed his '03 season. He came back timid in '04 but finished strong with 17 HR's. He has settled into the DH spot this season and is usually 1st off the bench to pinch hit but he needs to prove himself if he wants to continue to play in Batavia.

The Muckdogs have a nice home stand coming up as they play both Hartford and Maine at home. Batavia is 4th overall in BLB attendance this season even with sporting the #22 payroll. Crowds are expected near full capacity with several promotions, including a big firework display on the 11th following the 4:05 game against Maine.

Calling up Dusty Hyde from AA. Need to see if I can get a spark at 2B.
