Happy to be healthy going into the season. Tyler Kling didnt' pitch terrible but he's not quite ready for the bigs. We did have a few rookies make the starting 25: CF Jerry Sanchez who rates out better than he his OSA numbers will be interesting to watch. LF Reddy Noell, and MR Steve Krighbaum.

I only have 7 hitters at AAA so I sure hope some of my offers get accepted.

Ron Malone has won out the 4th spot in the rotation behind Mueller, Tamieke and Ledbetter.

Had to choose between Melgoza and Carter, but Carter is closer to ready so he gets the fifth spot.

Melgoza's control is sitting at 3/5 according to my scout, but he's 25 and I can't keep waiting. I also have a sneaking suspicion his control is actually a 3/4 so he's gonna get that bump in the pen.

Actually comfortable with my bullpen for the first time in seasons. It won't be Syracuse good. It probably won't even be average, but it's a year better and has plugged in some holes with two rookie additions.

Marshburn, Ramirez and Duarte are our hitting threats. After that, the best we could do is fill the team defensively and hope for the best.

Don't really matter to me. More losses equals more draft picks that will hopefully pan out and join this team when the rotation is mature.

RJ Curtis allowed 0 runs and only 4 hits in two 4-inning ST tuneup starts.

He's 34 and wants another ring. And he ain't getting it here.

11 of the top 100 prospects are in Carolina with more picks this draft. Surely even a buffoon like me can't screw this up? stay tuned.....

Noticed we let a few starters play and our projected win total went up 14 games.

Maybe next time I'll put in the official lineups to start off and see where it goes.

                      Pawtucket spring training report:

Some kids really performed well this spring training:

3B- Travis Jimenez basically took the job from Simmons last fall and so far just keeps right on humming along batting .328 ave/ .819 OPS. Will be replaced in the late innings by Tony Cardenas for defense. Think OSA has this kid right.

Mike Jimenez once a hitter, then turned pitcher, now back to hitter again. Batted .438 in limited time. My scout shows he has power and eye so we decided to try to get him a leg up early in spring training.

Jimmy Lee turned 24, about that age where they "get it". Impressed the managers in spring training batting .340 playing in just about every game with an OPS of .848. A good "tell" also is he went up a few spots in the prospect ranking while up here. Keep working on your defense kid and smooth out your ratings splits (switch hitter). By next year he maybe ready.

Wasn't any major competitions this spring. We already knew who made the team. The GM here is pretty stupid as it takes a large "sample size" before the final rotation and lineups end up locking in. Probably the reason why we play in the mud the first few months?????

Minors who will see first action(injury replacements):

                      OF- Octavio Valdez
                      OF- Jimmy Lee
                      IF- Ruben Vidal
                      SP- Lorenzo Guzman
                      MR- Colm Chambers
                      C- Hugo Mareno

Like to pick up another AAAA starter eventually, but we just use 5 of our 6 guys as starters depending on matchups. Think we will fine.

Well, I was afraid of that. Maybe he can come back and be a reliever. Good thing those last two years are team options. Another BLB edition of what could have been. Too bad.

That was the deal that built Hartford. Him and Camilo for Raul Gonzalez and Rex Knight. Sorry to see him go down.

I haven't had a ton of time to really dive in and take a state of the union view, but man, at least 25% of our returning roster all got old at the same time. Ratings drop offs (seemingly) on several key arms. It appears 2004 might very well have been this group's swan song. At least we squeezed one more Porter crown out of them.

Obviously I knew we were bad but after filling out my rotation and lineups, i'm downright depressed. We may be picking #1 again next year.
