Young kids look good. Wences, Manning, DiMaggio, Cash. So does Doug Rich for a second straight year. He'd look good in a playoff rotation. Danny Salcedo and Gleason seem to be enjoying the new additions to the line-up. The SP staff is weak for now, but I have plenty of young arms coming to help Wences and Lindsey. It's early but Porter might be able to start and Coma could be special. The bullpen is young and will be the backbone of the future.

No matter how hard I try to tank, Denver keeps getting in the way. They did last year, too.

Still only 6 games back? If we can just hold on until the All-Star break.....

Also rookie pitcher, Mendoza goes 5.1(had a pretty tight leash) with just 2 ER and 7K.

                  Pawtucket 5-1.

Nice, but expected. Jacopino pitched 8 innings allowing just 2 runs in his Pawtucket debut.

Tyler G and Tom V has been starting to pitch like I expected. Hitting......still choppy. Lucca really carrying the team on his back right now as Quinn and Montalbo have been struggling to find they're stroke.

Very slowly crawling back into the thick of things since being 6 games back. Nice stalking position.

Very underrated pitcher. Was stuck in Pittsburgh when they sucked way too long.

                      SIM 5

                      Washington Bats (17-14; 1/2 GB - 2nd)

Went .500 against two of the DL's best. I'll take it.

                      The Good
-It looks like OF B.J. Jobe finally is reaching that potential I had him pegged for. This week he had four multiple-hit games and seven runs this week. He has cemented his spot at the lead-off, finally. He's on pace for 20 SB, 180 H, 80 RBI. Pretty impressive so far.

                      The Bad
-Still on top, SS Cy Gray still leads my team in RBI with 20...on pace for 105.

                      The Ugly
-After struggling all seasons, veteran slugger C Mal Brady has anke soreness and will miss the next week of games. He's 32. Getting paid $12.75M. Hasn't hit at all. And now he is hurt...oh boy!

                      Next Week
-Road Week! Three @ tanking Dallas and three @ who knows what they are doing Los Alamos. I think it should be a good week despite my teams so-so play overall. I'll say 2-1 in both.

                      The Minors
-Getting the promotion this week is RF Tom Mathews to Triple-A. Drafted 31st overall by Syracuse, Mathews was released in 2002 with a torn thumb ligament. This after hitting at a .842 OPS in college and .761 OPS in two seasons of Double-A. In his first season in Washington, he hit .777 OPS in Double-A. This year, 1.071 OPS and he expects majors. Let's see how you do at Triple-A first Mathews.

The top players list seems more volatile lately. Yamamoto dropped off it entirely during the preseason and is now back up to #6. In other news, RJ Curtis is reminding the DL that he's still a boss despite missing 13 months with a serious arm injury. First ballot HOF material fo sho.

It's also only a matter of time before he gets hurt, but DH Robby Lewis has far exceeded expectations after being signed on the cheap before last season.

Robby Lewis is a nice player. He gave us a few big platoon games down the stretch a few years ago.

Spent some time looking at the draft...In my analysis:

                              1. I would kill for a Top 3 pick. There are three prospects that I have much higher than anyone else available by a long shot. Death Valley, Denver and Hartford should all get a stud. Well, I bet DVS and Hartford do. Denver will probably blow it.

                              2. The value continues through the next four picks. There are seven players that I would love to have in this draft and odds are all go in the first 10 selections. There is always a chance they fall, but I'm not counting for any of these to be there at 1.19.

                              3. This is where it gets cloudy. On my board #8-#20 is roughly the same. Probably won't even bother sorting them until the draft gets started.

                              4. I'm finding more "sleepers" in this draft than years prior. Probably a version change. I also see a lot more guys that look like "busts." Maybe its just me.
