Wences, Death Valley Announce 6-Year Deal

Fans were ecstatic as the Scorpions broke word that they had reached an agreement with Tony Wences, the phenomenal young starting pitcher today.

The deal, valued at $7,750,000 per year, will last 6 years and give the team some extra punch.

Solid signing for a rebuilding team. I actually thought we made a better offer($$$), but guess it wasn't long enough?

Pawtucket welcomes back SP Johnny Cosio to fill in our back of the rotation. He did fairly well with us and doesn't walk alot of players. He basically looks like the same kid from 99.

See if one of the better defensive outfields in baseball helps the kids out some.

Got my two primary offensive targets. Now we have some offense to go with a few arms that are coming up in those years.

Signed former Javelina pitcher Dusty Durham. Currently out with a torn labrum. 4-5-8 according to my scout as a SP. Wondering what he rates as a RP or maybe with that 8 control he can actually start for me. 29 years old. One year, $600K guaranteed.

Oh and I also signed about 100 minor leaguers....who are mostly released and back in the FA pool.

We'll roll the dice on him. He doesn't cost much up front and we put the highest we were going to go in the first offer. The back-end, if he's worth it, will be easy to keep for the money. If he's not worth it, we cut him loose.

Thought I'd get Marshburn or Duarte. Made a reasonable offer, but we'll take Kobayashi on the cheap instead to fill that chasm in RF. We can chase some smaller fish now and put the difference in scouting and development.

I figure going into this sim, he was the most offered Free-Agent. I never had the money to compete but I think he's going to be a good player.

In a real free agency, Wences, to whom I offered $11M/year over the four years he asked for, would have said, "Hey dude, you offered way more money than everyone else. You clearly want to have me. Can you add an extra year or two?"

Jesus Christ, I offered him a 2004 salary almost three times what he signed for!

Instead, he just signs with another team.

I offered more money also, including 14mil year 4! His low demands kind of had me worried he'd accept the first offer he saw.
