  • Trades that helped both teams

Searched the forum and couldn't find any threads on trades that ended up helping both teams. Was going through my roster today and realized back in '98 I made a trade that ended up benefiting both teams.

    Pittsburgh sends:

    California sends:

1998 Pick 1.2 - Used to select SP - Shane Carroll

It was a trade of current talent vs. future talent and I think both clubs ended up getting what they wanted out of the deal.

For me, Trujillo has been a 4-time IL All-Star and a 3-time DWI winner at SS. He's guided California to six straight winning seasons and has been the table setter I was hoping for when I traded for him.

Kane ended up going 20-13 in two years with the Kodiaks while helping to steady a young rotation in need of some veteran presence.

For the Millers, the impact wasn't immediate but in the end they may "win" the deal.

Gamboa, 20 at the time of the trade was a AA hitter with a lot of promise. Since then he has blossomed to one of the very best hitters in all of the DL, culminating that promise by winning the 2002 DL Stout Slugger award. Still only 26, Gamboa is an anchor the Millers can build around for years to come.

Jamie "Fudd" Thomas was only 18 when he was dealt away, just months after being the #5 pick in the 1997 draft by the Kodiaks. Since that time Thomas has grown into a full-fledged ace, earning his first All-Star nod in 2003 and currently boasting a 13-4 record with a 2.02 ERA.

On top of the talent they received, they also were granted the Kodiaks first round pick in 1998 draft which just happened to be the #2 overall pick. With that selection they chose SP - Shane Carroll. After a rocky first year in 2002, Carroll has turned things around in 2003 and looks to be a long time rotation mate with Thomas.

So, can anyone else think of beneficial trades they've had with other teams?

    Hmmm,

See ALL my trades benefit any team who deals with me.

I'll have to think about this one.

RaGo, Knight, Valencia for Bryant, Camillo and a 1st. Still one of my favorite negotiations with anyone. Ryan and I got it done in the middle of the Ale Arms Race.

Thought about that trade many times Linty. What a trade for both sides.

Knight for Castor and JJG was pretty good.

The trade me and Funclown were talking about the other week was mutually beneficial for a season or two.

It was Adam Nickell for Doug Jones.

Can easily create a spin-off thread of our favourite trades. I loved acquiring Rex Morgan but I think ultimately Syracuse won the trade in the long term. They ended up receiving the Gargoyle, 1st round pick, and Pepe Rodriguez.

Until you know who killed my Stout slugging 1B at 27. JJG was a throw in too. He wound up being my MVP when, shocker to no one here, Chuck Lindsey got injured.

Goes to show any team can win 50+ games one season and still turn it around fast if your active. Injuries are the only thing that could derail them now.

                      Nice deal.

I'm pretty sure Clay didn't have the power to make others get injured.

Having said that, he obviously upped his players ability to avoid them.
