4-3 for the week, a 3-way tie between with Batavia and Cali.
Hating that we lost Coates to another injury and its another arm injury. Danny Ybarra also out, also with an elbow injury. I think he really was poised to have a big season too. Sucks that we lose both guys in the first game of the season.
There is good in Baltimore though. Al Hamilton is looking like the REAL Al Hamilton again. My God, I forgot what its like to have a real superstar on the squad. Haven't seen this kind of stuff since Rex left.
What was that about our pitching? Yea its only a week but when your two young stars (Vleugel and Katsura) come out and give up 0 ER in their first 22+ IP after last year's performance, you've got to be happy about that.Last edited by Delandis; 09-04-2013, 09:49 AM.

Washington Bats - 6-1 - First Place in Stout, First in Power Rankings
3-0 vs. Carolina
3-1 @ Windy City
- Right where we left off...top of the league. I'm not surprised with the domination of the Tobs in front of the home crowd. But I am a bit surprised by winning three of four in Windy City. Would have been four had the bullpen not blown one already. Good to start off the year with a sweep...here ya go!
The Good
- The trio of Troy Hanback, Travis DuFour and Tom Downs combined to go 5-0 in five starts. None with an ERA over 2.00. None with a WHIP over 1.00. These guys are turning into the BLB's version of Glavine, Maddux and Smoltz.
- Almost everyone hit. At least all the regulars hit at a high level. The lowest OPS of any regular starter was .714 this week. Top to bottom this might be the best offensive club the Bats have seen in awhile.
The Bad
- The bullpen could be in trouble. I have a lot of question marks back there. CL Clarence Ortiz is an absolute stud but with the move of Edgar Salazar to the rotation has left the middle relievers without any star power. Might have to make some changes if they continue to blow leads.
The Ugly
- 12th in the IL in bullpen ERA.
The Farm
- I think I'm going to do seven-day lineups for my minors this year. Dedication.
The Week Ahead
- Three @ Philly. Three vs. Batavia. My team is playing well to start the year but these are teams we have struggled with in the past. Still not sure what to do about the bullpen and it might be early enough in the season to try a few different looks out there. I'll say 1-2 @ Philly but bounce back with 2-1 vs. Batavia.

Unbelievably bad start to the season for us. We look incredibly rusty coming out of ST. We didn't have one single position player that posted a positive WAR number during the opening week. It's only one week, but GD, that was awful.Philly Freedom

LA goes 5-2.
3-1 vs. Maine
The only thing that saved Maine from our brooms was Torres. He hates 2 start weeks and will regularly get shelled in one of those starts. I usually go with a floating 6 man staff to protect him from all this extra work, but I decided to not start the season running 7-day lineups.
2-1 vs. PAW
Why not Oscar Vasquez? He's a great young pitcher! The obvious reason for his meltdown would be that he responded poorly to a error by Orlando Saucedo. Funclown is probably thinking something more nefarious happened. In his own mind he will point fingers at our large Hispanic roster and think that there was some sort of back alley meeting with his Hispanic players. He will think that I had some sort of arrangement that if they sucked bad enough we would try to acquire them. That their families and immigration status were in jeopardy. Our response to him is LA is a clean organization, and we are beating you.L.A. Dinos GM since '94
