If you're capable of recognizing you missed a player, then you should be capable of handling that before the Rule 5.
Why do we have to "beg" another person to get the guy back by asking them not draft them or trade for them even though they're yours? Just because the rules we have written say that's the only way to get them back? Yes, Jistic said he's a "letter of the law" guy. He doesn't believe in rules if we don't stick to them - I think that's what he said. And, no offense Jistic, we know that's bullshit. You had the #1 pitcher available and you wanted him. So, within the rules you took him when someone (me) made a mistake.
That mistake showed me I had run out of time to run my team fully (besides the fact I was bored with Clay winning every year) so I just walked away.
I could have traded for him back - or argued "for the good of the league" (I miss that Clay line almost as much as "fuck off") but at that point it wasn't worth it.
All I'm saying (as the poster boy for stupid mistakes) is that there's something wrong with Rule 5 if there is an issue every year. Why do we just accept it as a problem and keep going with it? I think it's because this league enjoys arguing with each other and pointing out when we each fuck up.Death Valley Scorpions (2003-Present)

Again...if you can't take 2 minutes to put your organizations top prospect on your 40 man roster....you probably shouldn't be in this league. I'll be happy to take anybody elses top guys if they can't take two minutes to do this.
The only drama is the people that can't manage this simple little task. Again this happened to me years ago. The difference was I didn't cry about it.WINDY CITY PLAYBOYS

I'll admit that I completely forgot that a Rule 5 situation is why you left.
I like the Rule 5. I think it's necessary. I know I use it for a valuable reason and will continue to use it.
Why you missed a player when protecting your youth is something I can't answer. And as much as I enjoy playing against you, I still feel that anyone leaving a valuable player off their 40-man and exposing them has made the mistake on their own.
Owners in the past have been nice, but we can't simply expect that will happen all the time.
My opinion is removing the Rule 5 is just trying to help the one owner every season that makes a mistake. But what about the other 23 that might or might not need the young players available in the draft?
I do think OOTP 12 does a very poor job of helping you. OOTP 14 actually sends you a report to your manager screen telling you that a player or players that are prospects are currently left unprotected. It's a nice reminder and I'm sure something like that would have avoided the entire controversy of last season's Rule 5.
I'm not sure a thread dedicated to mistakes that were made is any different than posting a mistake was made.
I can never support a vote to remove the Rule 5. Not ever. If I end up being the minority in a vote then so be it.
If someone comes up with a good solution on how to prevent headaches, I'll listen and maybe support that. But I still think there's enough time to protect players, and check after a sim if your players are protected.

Just a thought but we could handle Rule 5 like we do trade waivers. Place a claim and give the owner 48 hours to protect him.
We may be able to eliminate an off-season sim if done this way. If you opened up rule 5 claims after Offseason 1 the next sim could take us right up to FA 1. Matt and Brad would just have to pause mid sim to enter the Rule 5 picks that were left unprotected.
Tue AM - AUG 20 - Offseason 1 - Accept/Decline Options to Pre Arbitration
Thurs AM - AUG 22 - Offseason 2 - Pre Arbitration to Rule 5 Draft
Fri AM - AUG 23 - Offseason 3 - Rule 5 Draft to January 1 NO FILES WILL BE IMPORTED
Sun AM - AUG 25 - Free Agency 1 (16 days)

What if the owner takes exactly 47.9 hours to pull the player back?
Now I miss out on the guy I wanted and don't get anyone else?
So maybe I can place a claim on several players. Do I have to mention which claim has more priority over the other?
