Also, why is it that we don't use the Rule 5 draft list in-game?

Why do we have to send a list to the commish?

I was heavily on "keep Rule 5" but if its causing this much strife, I'd rather just get rid of it.

That doesn't even make any sense.

If we get rid of Rule 5, will we still have players enter free agency after five(?) years in the minors?

After 6 years but there's nothing to prevent teams from re-signing them to a minor league deal before the start of free agency. On the other hand we may find that most players worth drafting after 6 years wouldn't be willing to accept a minor league deal.

That would beef up FA wouldn't it? Give us more young players? Am I right, not too sure on this.

That could make things interesting. Hasn't FA vs trading/draft been a hot topic lately. I was gone a few months.

Think so, but you just sign him to a minor league deal extension.

Rule 5 really doesnt bug once again. Just hate where each season it leads. Peoples franchises have been set back due to unrealistic losses to top 100 players, whacky trades have occured leading to "Fuck Off" posts. We know something is broke here, yet we dont fix it.

I hate "status quo". Part of my job here at work is to remove it.

Yeah it could definitely add some youth to free agency or at least force teams to spend money and a 40-man roster spot on a guy that deserves to play baseball.

If it creates that scenario, then the whole reason I want rule 5 is still intact - that being to ensure young players blocked by organizations get the chance to play for teams in need of their services.

My experience has been that players with an inkling of talent and time spent in the minors, want money. Not a lot of it, but money nonetheless.

It would force your hand a bit more. You couldn't just stash a minor league prospect for seven+ years. He would have to be paid money, be on your 40-man roster and collect service time there so he values himself even more later.

I just went through my team and every player that is Rule 5 eligible wanted a major league contract. Doing away with the Rule 5 draft would allow you to stash players for a little bit longer but I think minor league FA would prevent teams from stashing them indefinitely. We could always reduce the minor league FA setting so they become eligible sooner.
