  • DEAD BALL ERA???

I know we've talked about this before, but are we concerned about this?:

DL *** 1981-Present. I chose 81 since the league was probably in a flux first few seasons.

    Year Runs Ave OBS
    1981 4.9 0.266 0.333
    1982 5.0 0.264 0.339
    1983 4.7 0.260 0.335
    1984 4.6 0.259 0.336
    1985 4.6 0.257 0.333
    1986 4.7 0.259 0.332
    1987 4.7 0.261 0.334
    1988 5.0 0.267 0.338
    1989 5.0 0.268 0.340
    1990 5.0 0.266 0.339
    1991 4.8 0.264 0.340
    1992 4.7 0.261 0.336
    1993 5.0 0.265 0.342
    1994 4.7 0.258 0.340
    1995 4.6 0.256 0.335
    1996 4.7 0.258 0.339
    1997 4.6 0.255 0.333
    1998 4.4 0.250 0.326
    1999 4.4 0.249 0.324
    2000 4.3 0.251 0.327
    2001 4.0 0.244 0.316
    2002 3.8 0.239 0.308

I wanted to insert the charts, but I'm just dumb. Since 1997 runs have gone in the tank. Even appears to be accelerating. Note: this only the DL however, the IL seems to be trending the same especially this season.

Are the feeder leagues working properly?

    Version change playing a part?

Didn't check, but maybe the fielding just got sloppy and there are more unearned runs.

Thoughts? Don't get me wrong, I love the game and could be a matter of "adapt or die". Just wondering 1) Is there something wrong, 2) Could we even fix the issue if there is an issue???

I don't think there's any concern. Nothing more than the league evolving, imo.

While a joke, haven't more teams changed their ballparks to be pitcher friendly?

I can't recall guys adjusting to make home runs and runs easier.

I recently moved my right center in and straight right 20lf in. Lefties still suck though. Just wanted to give power lefties a chance.

How much did that improve HR ballpark rate?

.83 - .908. Basicallly enough where bigtime power hitters can send it out of the park but not the marginal ones (my assumption is 6 or lower for power are screwed)

One thing that seems to be happening is the emergence of more aces.

I complained about the lack of aces in the late 80s and early 90s with guys like Corrigan aging and slowing down. It was basically just Ironfist and Dimmick that really dominated.

But now that list has grown. And that's going to bring down runs.

                    That's just one aspect.

Thats all fine and dandy, but I see no real run drop thru any of the 80's. Heck looks like runs were a plenty thru most of the 80's????

                          IL/ 2002

                          4.0 runs per game
                          .246 average
                          .318 OBP.

Our IL brothers are trending the same direction.

Like I said, seems we are all cool with it. I was just making sure everyone was aware of it.

You are right though, the IL has out hit the DL for better part of the last decade. Considering you guys play with a better thats sort of sad.:(((((((

I think it's just how teams are built.

I've put up two of the Top 10 seasons for runs in the IL history in 1999 (#5 - 907) and 2000 (#7 - 904), so it's not like it can't be done.
