  • 2002 Draft

Any thoughts to this class coming up? Top three already know they're picks coming up?

Think I've stated already, to my scout and just overall view seems to have nice depth picks 1-25 (Bullpen Arms make the list more grow to 32) Solid midpicks up to late 3rd round then the usual drop off very late third to early comp B picks.

No true Aces but a decent pile of solid #2/#3 guys, heavy on OF and some decent (possibly above average up til late first round) IF.

Catchers look retarded, best to take some gamble in round 3 on a few.

I like what's out there early and feel good about anyone in my top five. I see some interesting risks for late 1st or 2nd round. I'm hoping at least one is around for 2.2 because I will make it especially when I feel the talent drops off dramatically after the first ten or so picks.

I think is one of the stronger drafts I've seen. Who knows could be the scout but the first round talent is really deep. Some of those late 1st round picks should turn into solid players.

I have picks 23, 47, 55, 71, 78, 91 and 92. Three of those are comp picks which can't be traded so looks like I will probably be standing still and taking BPA. Might need to move my later picks for future picks. Funclown?

As far as the draft, I think this is the first draft I can remember that does not have an ace SP prospect. Sure, one or two will probably develop, but my scout rates the #1 SP in the draft as someone who will "be solid" and "probably make an All-Star game or two."

But I do agree with this draft being very deep. I think even if I sit at 1.23, I will land a nice prospect. Much deeper draft than last years, but not the cream at the top.

I've put in 8 players into my list. I'm still not sure if I trust my scout but he did deliver a A-ball championship on the bats of Alba and Astimbay last year. Like others, he sees some guys that will be #2s but no dominant aces. Offense wise, there aren't any studs but a bunch of solid players. I'll be happy with whoever I get at 8 based on the list I made.

Bah. 1st round picks are overrated. I haven't one since 1996.

Edit: Oh I did have one in '98, I forgot about Wayne.

Four picks in the first 32 spots...hopefully we can get lucky and continue the rebuild.

The draft will not start until the move is done. Last update I got was that it was still in-process. Obce we're done, ill give you an official start time. Better safe than sorry (sourry for our Canadian friends).

In the meantime, the utility is updated. Feel free to double-check that you all got the picks you should.

my scout sees no all-stars in the making, but plenty guys that should be solid in the majors.

I see one future ace. One huge gamble that I'm curious where he goes because he may be a top pitcher in a few years or nothing at all. I see two hitters that should be all star caliber and one of those my scout says HOF potential that I think would debut at about #12 in the top prospect list today.

And lots of depth after that.

Assuming it's the same guy (and I will say it once he is drafted) that huge gamble is tempting me. But at #5, I gotta go safer.

We haven't had a similar player of that gamble's potential talent in about 15 years. I know his comparison but one thing scares the crap out of me.

I would take him 2.2 but I doubt he falls. Clay has a history of grabbing guys like him too.
