Is all of this really necessary? Four or five guys helped out Matt just do the same for Umd. This should be a non issue. But hell it is the off-season.

Agreed 100%. And my guy was crap compared to Neal.
It's a computer game where an honest mistake was made. To lose a good owner and cripple a franchise is ridiculous.
I wish I was #1 this year. I would pick him and give him right back. Shoot I have him #1 on my list anyways. If he gets to me he's going to Stu.

Yup...a game. No money, no trophies, no public adoration. Is it fun to win...heck ya. Is winning the only reason i come here...no. It's a place where we all bicker and fight but in the end hopefully enjoy the company, have fun, and escape real life for a little while each day. This game and these forums are a big part of my life but it's still a game, if that ever changes I'll pack up ship and move on.
I believe in my heart that if UMD would have stuck around and sent private messages out to those ahead of him in the draft they would have bypassed Neal. I've been around this site for many years now and I believe this is by far the best group of "owners" I've seen in my 15+ years of online sports gaming. Unfortunately he didn't go that route and whatever happens happens.
In the end it was a simple mistake that occurs when you balance real life with a game. To let someone lose their "fun" over it is something I just hate to see.

Question for people who know:
I know there's no exports this round but played around with a couple contract offers anyways. I have 12 million available. Tried to make about a 2.5 million dollar/yr offer and I got the "Your owner does NOT approve this deal!" message stating that it would push my future payroll above the projected budget. What's weird to me is that I've got $5 million in extension space so I would think I have the room for 2.5m.
Anyways... is this because of me trying it this sim? Does it go away? Is there a work around? Or am I screwed?Charlotte Knights - OSFL

Doesn't the game do that for extension space as well?
My payroll only goes up about 8 million the next year, and of course 11 of that is an option for Bowers I'll decline.Charlotte Knights - OSFL

One possible fix: Sign your arb guys to real contracts. For some reason this tends to open up future years. Again, its stupid.PAWTUCKET PATRIOTS

Just had a similar situation, Jake, in that other league you hate that I'm in. I had to buy out arbitration years for two players just to free up the money to sign my star pitcher to a contract extension.
It was super weird because extension money said I only had $1 million to offer. My pitcher was asking for like $20 MM a year. But somehow buying out the arbitration years of two players (and also offering them half of what they asked for in that next year) freed up all the money I needed to give my guy $17 MM a year and have him take it.
OOTP is whacked, like Clay said, in how it handles extension money that's being held up by arbitration figures. My guestimate is the game/owner is actually holding onto more money than it shows us just to be safe.Denver Bulls

Like if I have a guy whose line is:
280k - ($6.0) - ($6.0) - ($6.0)
If he sees that as $18.3.
Wouldn't shock me.
I just knew that once I offered arbitration to both guys, I suddenly had a whole lot more money. I wonder if perhaps you can pull the arby offers immediately after and be okay. Sure a guy would be upset about it and say he won't talk to you, but you'll have a few years for him to get over it. He can't go anywhere. You own him.Denver Bulls
