Your Most Impressive/Surprising Rookie (2001)

Since this is a draft driven league, I'm sure every keeps close tabs on their rookies and you all know I definitely do. I can't catch every rookie with my monthly awards and I obviously continue to refuse to celebrate a Pawtucket system player so.....everyone else chime in.

Which of your 2001 draft picks surprised you with their play since becoming a professional? Anybody to keep an eye on? It doesn't matter if he was a late rounder or not. Also, link his name so everyone can quickly see his stats for the year.


For me it would be 19 year old Taiwanese import, I-po Wu. 84th pick in the draft I-po hit the ground running and never stopped. He started 11 games, with a 2.20 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. In fact he ended August with a 1.21 ERA for the month. Put up very similar numbers to when he was in Taiwan.

Yea, he'll be in AA next season.

For me, it's Todd Daywalt. Most definitely.

I drafted four straight pitchers to open my draft and he was the fourth one taken. Two were taken in the first round. A third in the second round. Daywalt went in 4th round, after two supplemental rounds, and has been the best of the four.

He took the mound 12 times in A ball, posting a 2.89 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP and 57/15 K/BB ratio in 71.2 Innings. He was unlucky and only had a 3-6 record, but clearly it wasn't his fault.

If he can continue to post a 7.16 K/9 along with a 1.88 BB/9, he'd be a steal. I don't expect it, though I do think he can be a reliable arm in the BLB.

Little vague and no one asked about your 2000 draft picks.

Ours was easy:(We expected Diaz to do what he did)

SS Marco Lona. We moved up to land an extra second round to nab this guy.

Batted .308 ave/ .394 OBP/ .810 OPS in his short stay in single A. Not a prospect yet, but supsect he cracks the lower 100 at somept in his career. Will be playing in AA next season.

With that he's a lefty so.............

Ricky Rocha our 10th round pick. 2.29 ERA in 9 starts. 1 HR and 15 BB allowed in 63 innings.

Too bad this is his peak.
