Another one of my totally failed moves. Hardwick/Luna/Huerta so I move hardwick and Luna's slow to develop and Huerta fell off the face of the earth. On top of that, I got Hanson who is a complete scrub.

How I win a game ever in this league, I'll never know.

I guess we're getting the most we can out of our players. The Furry Pigs are 47 - 35 even though no player's stats were gaudy enough to garner sufficient votes for an ASG appearance. Who knew Javelinas were pack animals?

Luna should be a beast. Not sure what happened to Hanson...he was what my scout thought he was hitting .284/.412 when I traded him. You having the 3rd best record in the league isn't helping me have your 1st next season though so we all lost at something.

Baltimore Bulldogs (52-30, T-1st in the Porter )
                    3-3 for the week
                    2-1 vs VIR
                    1-2 at WIL
                    • I'd be lying if I said that I didn't expect these results to be reversed. Either way, California struggled a bit this week, giving us the opportunity to go into the All-Star break with a share of the lead in the Porter. Coincidentally, we are also tied in the BLB Power Rankings. Its been a bit of an uphill battle to get to this point and I think that we have put ourselves in a very good position halfway through the season.

                    The Good
                    • Limited in AB's because of our signing of former Tobs star, 1B Ismael Reyes, 2B Colin Reed has been outstanding for us of late. Last week he went 6/12 with 2 HR. He'll probably see a few more AB in the 2nd half of the season due to his recent surge in play.

                    • The bullpen showed up again this week, allowing just 6 runs in 24.3 IP. They chipped in 21 K and gave up just 4 BB. With this being said, its unsurprising that the only pitcher to make the All-Star Game for the Bulldogs' is The Greek Demigod, MR Basil Petrohilos.

                    The Bad
                    • Not a good sight to see your #1 pitcher get rocked like SP Derek Vleugel did last week. After only lasting just 2.7 innings in his previous start, this week the star from Aruba was only able to go .7 IP before being pulled by manager, Caden Finch.

                    The Ugly
                    • Our starters pitched horribly, AGAIN. A 7.81 ERA, 24 ER in 27.7 IP, 23 K with an insane 20 BB. In particular SP Sadahura Katsura is having a terrible year going 5-3 with a 5.59 ERA. Last year, Katsura was an All-Star. Hopefully, his .304 BABIP is just an anomaly.

                    The Farm
                    • Our 1999 4th round pick, 2B Pat Riley had a great week for our Annapolis (AAA) squad last week. The 23 year old from Vancouver was able to post a .424 batting average for the week, including 3 doubles, 2 triples and five stolen bases. I don't think he'll be a star, but its always nice to have guys like this who can make an impact defensively with speed and a little pop at the plate.

                    The Week Ahead
                    • Definitely a much needed rest. Hopefully our pitching can find its groove in the 2nd half of the season. It could be argued that SP Hector Castre was the best starter in the IL in the 2nd half of last season, so we hope to see that kind of turnaround for the young starter, SP Sadaharu Katsura this season.

Truthfully, its how we expect to perform every week.

Just realized my team moved up to 3rd in Defense Efficiency. Our problem was errors (mostly made by the rookies). But by calling up some of the vets to lose games for us, we also improved our defense.

Not a good thing when I'm eventually going to build this franchise with that youth.

California (52-30, T-1st in the Porter)
                              • Terrible way to head into the break. Facing the two worst teams in the IL, and not only do we not have a winning week, we end up going 2-4. Having said that, it's been a solid first half to the 2001 season, as always, our team is being held together by our strong lineup.

                              The Good
                              • 1B - Ed Betts finally makes his long awaited All-Star debut. Lost in the shuffle behind Fujii, Turcotte and the always solid Marshburn, Betts finally gets some national press.

                              • SP - Curt Warren and SP - Ty Arnold continue to anchor our rotation, something I didn't think we'd have much of after losing both Travis Fisher and Doug Bates for pretty much the entire year.

                              • SP - Hector Anaya. What can be said about this guy? He's been a great find in the rotation and well on the way to earning his $10 million dollar pay check next year.

                              The Bad
                              • 2B - Todd Burley, where have you gone? The solid 2B has withered this year showing a below average bat for the first time in about 3 years.

                              The Ugly
                              • Injuries to the Starting rotation. SP - Travis Fisher, SP - Doug Bates, SP - Tyler Baker, all pretty much done for the year.

                              The Farm
                              • 1999 3rd round pick, SP - Zack Alt has been improving with every start in A Ball this year. I don't know if he'll ever be anything more than a 4-5, but if he can develop into that, I'll be happy with the results.

                              What's Left?
                              • Second half of the season coming up. Will we be able to win our third straight Porter crown, or will a new team take our spot? Can't wait to find out.

(Thanks to Delandis for the template!)
