Consider Pantilimon Opponents are hitting .189 righty .185 lefty. Slugging .216 and .231. Only 4 extra base hits of the 26 allowed in 40 inn. Take away the one game against Batavia and he has been untouchable.

Ladies and Gentleman I present to you your 2001 DL All Star Bullpen:

          What do you want?

Are you a saves guy? Koichi Nakashima has 17, 3rd in the DL.

ERA guy? Nakashima is currently second with 0.54, Rod Phillips sits at 1.29, and Ivan Olivo is right behind them at 1.67. Hisashi Tanaka has really been the ugly duckling of the group. With a 2.08 ERA.

Maybe WHIP suits your fancy? I've got 4 guys for you all with below 1.00 WHIPS: Nakashima (0.81), Olivo (0.85), Tanaka (0.89), and Phillips (0.94).

Are you a saber head? Fielding Independent Pitching your kind of thing? JJ Ballos leads the DL with a 1.24 FIP. Not too far behind is Nakashima (1.94) and Olivo (2.06).

WAR? Ballos leads the DL relievers with 1.6. Olivo 3rd at 1.2, Nakashima close behind at 1.1 WAR.

I get it. You're a H/9 guy. Phillips leads the deal at 3.09. Add Chip Carver to the conversation: 3rd int he DL at 4.81 H/9. Tanaka, Nakashima, and Olivo all round out the leaderboard.

Opponents AVG: Phillips, Carver, Gargoyle and Olivo are all in the top 6.

I could keep going. But to recap, in order of worthiness (IMO):

          Gargoyle Nakashima: 2nd in ERA (0.54). 3rd in Saves. 7th in wins. 7th in H/9. 6 in BB/9. 7th in K/9. 3rd in K/BB. 6th in OPP AVG. 3rd in WHIP (0.81). 5th in FIP. 6th in WAR.

          Rod Phillips: 6th in ERA (1.29). 1st in H/9 (3.09). 1st in HR/9. 1st in OPP AVG. 0.94 WHIP.

          Ivan Olivo: 8th in ERA (1.67). Third in wins (4). 2nd in games pitched (41). 5.73 H/9. Top 10 in HR/9. 7th in BB/9. 7th in K/BB ratio. .180 OPP AVG. .85 whip. 2.06 FIP and a 1.2 WAR.

          Hisashi Tanaka: 2.08 ERA. 0.30 HR/9. 4th in H/9 (5.04). .167 OPP AVG (good for 5th). 0.89 WHIP.

          Chip Carver: 2.22 ERA. 3rd in H/9 (4.81). 3rd in OPP AVG (.155).

Yes, there are probably a guy here and there with an extra win. Or a lower whip. Or more K/9. But to be so dominant across the board in multiple statistical categories, I think all these guys (well, maybe not Carver) truly deserve a spot.

Jake is the boss that never checks his inbox.

My only pimp is 2B Cristobal Sandoval. I have several players putting up decent stats but they are blocked by stars of the league. Sandoval meanwhile is hitting .316/.360/.393 and leads the league with 25 stolen bases. In the field he has a ZR of +5.2 and range of 5.30 while committing 5 errors in 349 chances.

Again I don't know how it works, but Jarava qualifies to be #3 for batting average yet he doesn't appear on the ballot????

My goodness, the DL 3B and 2B choices this year were pitiful.

For anyone waiting for the next sim to vote a couple of guys to keep your eyes on:

Masoaki Matsumoto (3B): Leads all 3B in average (.291), 2nd in OBP (.376), 2nd in wOBA (.346). He has found a new home in Baltimore.

Angelo Barrios (OF): Probably won't catch the bigger names in the IL but outside of Marshburn, its hard to argue that any IL right fielder has had a better 1/2 of the year than Barrios.

Derek Vleugel (SP): Guys like Vleugel are the reason I don't use All-Star appearances as a gauge for HOF voting. Vleugel pitched very well last year and missed out on All-Star appearance. Only 5 names can appear on the ballot, Vleugel should be one of those five.

Franklin Martinez (MR): Every year Martinez is one of the better relievers in the game, but has never made an All-Star game. This year will be no different but at least look at his numbers. He logs big time innings and is always top 5 in WAR for relievers, which is always a plus in my book for a reliever. Its all about sample size, guys.

Basil Petrohilos (MR): He'll get in on name...and the fact that he's awesome. Did you know he only made the All-Star team once while in Batavia? Can someone give this HOF his 3rd All-Star appearance, please?

Sure, sometimes. I was thinking that was it. Either way whatever. Guess I'm hoping Jim or Dave write him in.
