But with the retro DL I don't see an issue. The way I handle it is to remove the player from his spot in the lineup/rotation and fill in for the week. If he is better than he will be used as a PH, if it's less than a week then no worries and he returns to his spot next sim. If it's long term then he is DL'd retroactively.

This is what I do anyway. Am I missing a downside?

If we had day-to-day transaction options I would be able to "check with the team doctors" midweek and get a diagnosis. With week long SIMs you have to guess that the injury is going to be longer than a week, which honestly, this was my first encounter with such a scenario. Previously it hasn't mattered because my pending diagnosis injuries always ended up being 2+ week injuries. This time both Alvarez and Jenkin would be eligible to play next week if not for their DL assignment. Oh well.

      We'll just agree to disagree.

I think both Philly and Baltimore can continue to contend because we both are a bit deeper (IMHO) pitching than Cali. That Fisher injury will show a bigger impact in the 2nd half of the season. You can only lean on Jeremiah Washington as your #1 for so long.

Yes Cali's offense is awesome, but as I mentioned, our starters haven't pitched well yet. Miles will be back and you'll be right back in it. I'm not worried about us (Philly and Baltimore) remaining competitive at all.

Agreed...it's unrealistic in week to week sims. Tried to pass the rule but it lost 15-7...close but no cigar.

I went into the week with 2 pending diagnosis cases and 2 dinged players, I didn't feel I had the luxury of risking ending the week with a 21 man squad. That stuff may fly in A ball (bazinga!) but it doesn't play in the bigs!

You'd be surprised what some of these AAA guys can do in small sample sizes.

We don't need 21 guys in A ball. Sucker.

                  We extended a few guys.
                  • Raulo Gutierrez gets next year guaranteed and a team option for another. I feel great about getting a pitcher of his caliber on a deal like this. I was worried I wouldn't be able to get him with less than a four year deal.
                  • Robby Shumway has been very productive for me. We're avoiding a couple years of arbitration and locking him up for three years.
                  • Pat Fowler gets four years at $500K. Not sure he's better than a #4 starter, but I'll take him on this deal, and he's happy to be getting a raise for the next few years.

                    Best pitching week this year.

Potter another 8 innings of strong baseball. Just 2 runs. Lowers ERA to 4.97.

Clark really making me proud to stick with him. Hoping this continues. He's now 1-2, 2.96 ERA after throwing 6 shut out innings and a complete game the next.

Bankston surrendering just one run over 6 innings. Though he still has no wins and an ugly ERA.

Same for Gentner who went 5.2 innings.

Boehmer has now lost two straight but only gave up 3 earned runs. Errors did him in.

                    Offense sucks.

Aside from that whole "being no-hit by Hartford" thing, that was an ok sim.

After a rocky start, Angelo Sanchez has allowed 1 ER over his last 15 IP against two pretty good teams. I still have 2 good pitchers and 3 bad ones, but maybe one of the bad ones is becoming slightly less bad.

Von Haynes, continuing to mash at age 37. Don't tell him he's no longer on the top players list.

                          Pawtucket 3-3.

                          The good

We finally HIT the ball. Even scored 9 runs in one game. Gill shook off the rust going .423 this week. Jarava continue to hit well with back to back .400+ ave weeks. First look at the new offense with Dusty Campbell and now its just time to let things sit for awhile. Oh and we play better on the road??? (7-6)

                          The bad

We suck at home??? (5-14) Sometimes the game makes no sense. Tyler Gerald's worst start of the season. Doesn't seem to like the 6 man rotation, but we should be back to 5 this week. Still overall 4th in runs allowed per game, but would suck if we finally start hitting only to pitch like crap.

                          The farm

AAA- Well most of the prospect crew is back after some got they're first taste of BLB action and we went 6-1. Tyler continues to pound the ball along with several others. Our two pitching prospect have just pitched "eh".

AA- 1B Jon Montalbo debuted at #89! Lets see if our 98 third rounder escalates enough to stay on the list come June. P Tom Hau got crushed. Figured he was due.

Took Indy two of three to start our 9 game road trip. Lets see if we can get on some sort of roll here.

Baltimore Bulldogs (21-11, 2nd in the Porter)

                            2-1 vs Davenport
                            1-2 vs Carolina

Didn't fair too well against Carolina this go around but we did well enough to stay within spitting distance of California.

                            The Good

-Masaoki Matsumoto (3B) has been spectacular against RHP and this past week was no different. Batting over .500 for the week and an OBP of nearly .600, the Japanese 3rd baseman has a chance to make his an All-Star appearance at 3rd base. Matsumoto last made the All-Star Game in 1994 with the Davenport Brawlers.

-Carolina's 1985 4th round selection, Jonah McCarthy (C) has been a great pickup for us this year. After a truly disappointing year in Batavia in 2000, the 2-time DWI winner has found new life since signing a minor league contract in late April with the Bulldogs. In just 17 AB, Jonah has picked up 9 H and is a nice platooning right handed hitter opposite of Kubota.

                            The Bad
-We still cannot keep the ball off of the opposing hitter's bats. Well at least our starters can't. Last week, no starter had an ERA below 6.40. The starters gave up 23 ER in 26 IP, while our bullpen gave up just 7 ER in 31 IP. Thank God for our bullpen.

                            The Ugly
-Colin Reed (2B) had a tough go of it in his first full week following an injury in opening week. He was only able to muster up 2 hits in 16 AB with no home runs.

                            The Injured
-Kazuyoshi Maekawa (SS) will be out 5 more days to allow his strained oblique to fully heal. We won't make the same mistake that we did with Reed, as we Maekawa will probably spend a couple more weeks in Annapolis (AAA) getting in reps. His return will likely do wonders for our defense as I see Trujillo just doesn't have the range necessary to be an everyday shortstop.

-Pat Marlin must've been in an off-season accident, because I don't see him getting hurt anywhere on the game logs. Lets just hope it was a minor injury, although we've got a more than capable reserve in Alex Gomez.

                            The Farm
-Robbie Williams (SP) looks like he is about ready in AAA. On 5/6/01, the kid threw an 8.1 IP gem with 11K and just 1 BB. He's probably ready for the big stage and we'll probably be in the market for another lefty next year.

                            The Week Ahead
-Next week we're on a roadtrip through the Stout, with 3 @ VIR and 3 @ WIL. We were able to sweep the Colonials last time and lost 2/3 vs. WIL. This time, I'm expecting we can take 2 of 3 from both teams this time around.

Happened on a defensive play in your 05/13 game. I'm guessing it's not listed in his history yet because it's pending.
