    • Hate internationals (draft only, love IFA's!), but decided to select Laurent Boutin with our first pick in the 2001 draft.

According to my scout, Boutin will compete, but won't be a star... so, if I nabbed a 3-4-5 this late in the draft, I'll be quite pleased. On top of that, Boutin is fairly developed per my scout, so he'll be starting his career in AA.

          • I could do that.

Batavia goes with MR Martin Diaz. My scout likes him, OSA likes him (kinda) and he has a torn meniscus so he can rehab with Guadamuz.

My scout had Omar Valadez in the top 10 on his board. I couldn't pass him up this late.

Anyone have thoughts on Valadez or the starting pitcher I grabbed at 2.17, Adan Neubauer?
I had Neubauer on my list. I almost took him too. His control does look a bit on the weak side but I liked his k's and movement.

              • With 4 SP in the top 39 on the prospect list the Millers of course selected 5 SP in the first 69 picks. I guess our draft strategy falls under best player available.

                Or falls under hoarding.

                • We take CF Xavier Gomez and RF Robby Studebaker with our first 2 picks of the draft. Maybe they contribute. Maybe they don't.

Still looking to trade some of our vets for picks next season (or beyond) and prospects.

                  • I was going to take Studebaker. It's a good risk pick at this juncture.

                    • I picked Jimmy Christensen. Listed as a closer, but was a starter in college and pitched well against strong competition.

                      • With the 84th pick in the 2001 draft the Bulldogs select 19 year old Taiwanese prospect, I-po Wu.

Wu has 3+ pitches, including a good fastball and changeup, and put up pretty good numbers in Taiwan. Wu put up comparable numbers to other top rated internationals like, Kelvin Diaz and Sal Bermudez. His high WE combined with our top notch coaching staff could bode good things for the young Taiwanese hurler.

We'll just have to wait and see. But not too long because I refuse to overcook my players.

I liked Tammaro too. I fully expect each of the guys I didn't choose to become stars while mine end up more like Pete Jones.
