    Good pick.

I was going back and forth between him, Vic and two other starters. But in the end, I went with the type of player I'm used to building my team with. Plus I have a feeling that these guys may still be lounging around when my supplemental pick rolls around.

My scout loved the guy and I'm really surprised he fell this far. His intelligence and work ethic leave a bit to be desired but both OSA and my scout have him at 8-6-5 potential so it looks like a pretty safe choice.

Looks like he'll be heir apparent to our current lefty setup/closer, D. Rodriquez.
My scout says 6-5-4. "Below average middle reliever."

With the 48th pick the Bats select, Clemson SP Ron Phillips!

Very excited to see him last this long. My scout says 5-5-6. "Difficult to project stardom but a future big leaguer." Very High Leadership. Lefty. The #1 pitcher on the best team in college baseball.

He has a few question marks, however. He has low work ethic and only normal intelligence. He also has very high greed. After a great freshman season, he didn't play at all his sophomore year. No idea why. Then his junior season he hurt his shoulder and was out six months. However, in his senior year he has really put it together. Currently #3 in ERA, #7 in IP, #1 in BB/9, #1 in K/BB and #2 in WHIP. I originally had him pegged for a late 1st-early 2nd grade.

Interesting his collegiate roommate, SP Dave Carter was selected 11 picks earlier by the Denver Bulls, despite inferior statistics.

I now don't pick again until 4.24....the 125th overall pick. It's going to be awhile.

Probably collateral damage from an underfunded scouting budget on our end. Although, his K's, BB, and HR #'s seem to border closer to my scout's assessment.

But its the draft......its what keeps us coming back. Now I'm just going to try and sit back and hope the one other guy I have my eye on doesn't get scooped up in the sandwich round early.

        • What the rule on when you pick? I checked this morning before church and there were 10 teams to pick in front of me and it said my next pick would be tomorrow. Check tonight and I got autoed. So is the time limit fluid?

                • I do and I'm ok with whom I got. Just always like to look at the top of my list and make one final look at it.

                  • We didn't have a first round pick this year, but we've got four guys we like to boost our farm system, including a trio of starting pitchers.

My scout had Omar Valadez in the top 10 on his board. I couldn't pass him up this late.

Anyone have thoughts on Valadez or the starting pitcher I grabbed at 2.17, Adan Neubauer?

                    • mine has Omar with "No Potential at All" and Adan with "Not a Guy who has any business ptching for a contender". Does say that Adan is upper echelon for ks though. My scout doesn't like his control is the rub.

                      • I liked Neubauer. He was on my short list of guys I would like late, if they fell.

                        • When I was selecting Garrett Mills, Neubauer was one of the pitchers I was talking about. I liked him but he didn't show the level of dominance that Garrett showed although he's got a nice combo of pitches. Plus he was a RHP and Garrett is a LHP, a plus in Phillips Field.

With the 61st pick in the draft the Bulldogs select 18 year old high school prospect, Hector Minas.

Minas is actually Puerto Rican but spent most of his childhood in the States. A very raw player, Minas actually won the HS Slugger Award as a sophomore. Minas hit .320+ all 4 years and was just an all-around tough player to contain at the plate. Add to that his speed, arm strength, switch hitting ability, and potential to play all MIF positions, I look forward to watching his progress closely.

                              • I'd like to move up to grab someone so Carolina is willing to send their 3rd, 4th, and 5th round picks this year to move up and get him as long as he's there. In other words, it has to be your turn to pick.
