    NEXT SIM: Friday

    ***

REMINDER: Discuss and Vote your Hall of Fame Ballot... and thank Brad for being the Curator.

    ***

I'm hoping to have the utility set up in the next 24 hours in order to start the Draft on Friday. If you pick in the Top 3-5, might not be a bad idea to at least be thinking about what you're doing with the pick.
    The Great One!

          Pawtucket 3-3.

Treading water. Waiting for Gill, Helespontico & Ole Mens to return.

          The good:
Overall starters- Good starts from Pierce & Gerald. Just need to get them some run support. Aparicio has pitched respectable on the backend.

2B Todd Boyce - debuted this week and couldnt be happier for the kid. Thrusted in the Helespontico's #2 spot (#1 against lefties) batted .333/.385/.843 stat line. If he continues playing like this Helespontico might be seeing some DH time.

CF Troy Stucker- Whats up with this kid? He's here to play defense. Any offense we get from him is just a bonus.

          The bad/ horrible:
Easy, Tyler Quinn. Only one hit so far. Rookies. Won't hesitate sending him back to AAA since he's only 23 and just might need some more time. Gill comes back in a week so we will give him another week or so.

Clarence Willis. My "dirt dog" who's playing like shit. Already have acknowledged 3B as a weak pt. Willis should know by now in Pawtucket job security doesn't exist. Just keep it up.

Run support- Early sampling, but right now we seem to have a bunch of table setters and not enough kids to bring them home. The Gill injury & Quinn struggles have made it tough to judge. Again, like to have all 3 power hitters in the lineup at once to make a better assesment.

          The Farm:
AA- Well after a couple of seasons of "ratings bumps" or "top 100 rankings" and showing ZERO performance on the field, SP-Tom Hau & 1B Jon Montalbo might actually being showing something in 2001. Both out to great starts as is our Lawrence squad which has played well past few seasons.

A- Deatherage batting .244! Lol, I just like his name.

Another 2-4 week. Another Boehmer excellent performance.

Troy Clark is pitching as if he turned the corner. I like it.

That's why I'll stick with Potter struggling and eventually move Mueller to the rotation.

Bankston has been a decent rule 5 pick up so far. And Gentner is throwing like a capable starter. Z was right with him. Worried he might be a bullpen arm only.

Not discouraged. Lost two games in the bottom of the ninth and stole one in the bottom thanks to another Rule 5 pick and his grand slam.

4-8. No playoff hopes but losing together.

Did the same. I was reading the box scores, went back and did a double take to make sure I didn't read that one already.

                      Damn bullpen.

                        Washington Bats (8-4; Stout leader)

                        3-0 vs. Batavia
                        1-2 @ Baltimore
About what I expected. Batavia is a bottom feeder, so sweeping them in D.C. should be expected. I wish we had stole one more game from Baltimore but that's a tough team and tough place to play.

Best Game: Up 4-3 after six innings the Bats bullpen would go six-deep (that's what she said) to maintain the one run lead for the win over Batavia.

Worst Game: Up 1-0 after four innings, the Bats were feeling good. Baltimore would score 13 over the next four innings to blowout Washington.

                        The Good
-He was mentioned here last week but OF B.J. Jobe continues to rake. On pace for 149 games, 486 ABs, 81 R, 189 H, 41 SB, .389 AVG and 1.036 OPS. Keep on keepin' on!

-After a few years of slow development, I had started to lose faith in SP Travis DuFour. Now, in year three in the BLB, he is my ace. After losing the first two to Baltimore, DuFour was the calming force to win the third game. 8 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 0 ER, 7 K in a 2-0 win.

-Traded for IF Pat Wallace out of need due to Spring Training injuries and the return has been solid. Now hitting .300, Wallace had a 3/3 game against Batavia and looks like he might be able to make it at the BLB level after all.

                        The Bad
-When you pay a guy (OF Yidir Adili), a ton of money ($20M), you expect him to hit good (.668 OPS).

                        The Ugly
-Philadelphia at 10-2? Come on, Porter!

                        The Injured
-2B Jeremiah Kelly made his rehab debut this week and dominated. This is my first time using that feature so I'm not quite sure how long he should play at that level. I think at least another week. Maybe the full three weeks. Clint Johnston will make his debut in Triple-A Richmond fielding next to Kelly this week. Chad Melson is still out for a few more weeks. Poor guy.

                        The Farm
-9-4, 7-6, 7-6. Solid at every level so far.

                        The Week Ahead
-3 vs. Virginia. 4 vs. Wilmington. Stout Week! My rotation isn't setup for the rivalry with Virginia but I still think we get two of three. As for the Blue Wave...3-1.

Baltimore Bulldogs (8-4, 3rd in the Porter)

                          1-2 vs. Wilmington
                          2-1 vs. Washington

I'm not sure who took our pitching but its not here right now. Wilmington beat us up for way too many runs and was able to pull out 2 games in extra innings. We were a bit more respectable against the Bats, winning 13-5, 4-1, and were shut out the last game, 0-2. Luckily, we've been knocking the cover off the ball so we don't fall too far behind Philly and Cali early on.

                          The Good

-Has Antonio Trujillo finally put it all together? Albeit a small sample size, he looks promising. We were often afraid to let him swing against RHP last year because struck out so much in key opportunities. This year, he's leading the IL with an .465 BA and has 12 RBI. All of this and he hasn't even hit a home run yet. We know he can't keep up this pace, but its very nice to see him earning that new contract.

-After his first solid performance against the Colonials to start the year, Ignado Sanchez pitches well again giving up just 2 ER in 6 2/3 IP. Keeping Sanchez on a pitch count seems to be working for the old workhorse or maybe he's just playing for that final contract.

-Picking up Matsumoto in FA is looking very nice so far. The Japanese star his hitting .382 against RHP with an impressive .432 OBP. If he starts to heat up against lefties, that's just icing on the cake.

                          The Bad
-Our entire pitching staff as a whole, is having a lot of problems keeping the ball away from the bats of hitters so far this year. We've giving up 119 hits so far this year, and that's a bit alarming.

                          The Ugly
-Clarence Lyon gave up 2 H, 3 ER in .3 IP this week. I see his propensity to give up the long ball is real and he may REALLY find himself back in Pittsburgh playing like this.

                          The Injured
-We lost a lot of infield defense with injuries to Kazuyoshi Maekawa (SS) and Colin Reed (2B). These two are by far our best two defensive infielders but we'll be without Maekawa for a month and Reed is out for two more weeks. Former Bat, Pete Phelps will get the call up for utility duty, while 31 year old speedster, Geoff Sutherland will be called upon for pitch hitting vs. LHP and extra speed on the base paths.

                          The Farm
-Former 1st round pick, Dave Doggett (A) has moved into the Top 100 Prospects list without pitching a single game. I'm going to be using a 6-man rotation in Orlando (A) this year, but I forgot to switch it from a 5-man to a 6-man.

                          The Week Ahead
-And the gauntlet begins: 3 @ Philly, followed by 4 at home vs. Batavia. Philly looks scary good and our pitching has been very shaky. I'll go 1-2 at Philly and 3-1 vs. Batavia.

In my eyes I have identified a clear top 4. Of course I pick 5th so if all four go I'll be looking to trade back a few spots.
