His defense is league average at best at LF. He hasn't played 138+ games since 1996. He's 32. Since signing his four-year $40M deal in 1996 he has been hurt quite a bit. He hit .965 at home and just .808 on the road. His greed is very high. His desire to win is low. His starting demands are high. After teams compete for his services, they will go up.
If he makes a dime under $25 per I'll be shocked. The only way he won't is only one guy bids FA 1 and he jumps. Otherwise, I expect him to start at 4 years $100.0.

Everyone got their wish.... guys in their prime hitting FA. Now pay for it.

The surplus has now dropped to $43M...

I'm just being honest. I'm first off surprised to see him in Free-Agency, which changes the game. I'm really not sure what I will do. If I want to after Adili, it will cost me a large portion of that budget for the next few years. Or, I can go with more Bat-friendly type FA's like I did last year.

Trust me, I'd love to have him. If I had him in 2000, I think I win the Brewmaster's.

You're stretching on his Defense. He's just fine in the corners. OF defense in this league isn't great. I'd put him on the high end. Not DWI or playing for NO level... but he's not a step down for most teams.

In 1996, his LF zone rating was +12.
In 1998, his LF zr was -3.6.
In 1999, his LF zr was +6.3.
In 2000, his LF zr was +1.5.

If anything, he is showing a steady decline. You can see it in his base running. He's getting older.

Has happened ALOT in the version with OF's after 30. Maybe it this bad before, but had 3 versions and appears to be worse.

He's got 2-3 seasons left in him. Been watching this kid for years and has had a steady decline. Still, great player in the right ballpark!

I just wouldn't expect him to be league average OF defender by the end of the contract. Probably need to move to 1B or DH.

I really like Adili and I pushed hard to get him last year. I forgot the exact package, but it was better than a sandwich pick. But the offer wasn't good enough, so I was shocked to see him in FA.

Yeah, I wish we could go back and I would take one of those deals with the knowledge I have now. I wanted to keep Adili, and at the deadline I thought I would be able to since I was able to trade Coates since I couldn't afford both of them.

After the Coates trade, Adili's demands went through the roof and when I offered him a lower $ deal he got pissed and I could never get him into a deal I could pull off without bankrupting myself. Like Clay said he was going to be at least 30% of my budget, and with his untimely injuries over the last few seasons and his age I wasn't going to do that. ... so it is what it is. Damn fake baseball players and their outrageous demands... Have fun bidding on him.

It's OK to have 25+ players on the active roster from this point forward until the end of ST, correct?

Hindsight is always 20/20 but there is value in him walking.

Comp A pick. $20+ in budget room this year. No threat of being stuck with the aging, declining, injury prone veteran before the end of the contract. You don't want the next Amri Sau.

And honestly, if you were trying to compete in 2001, you are probably better set spending that $20 on four or five players instead of just Adili.
