More of the same this week. We did take 3 out of four from Carolina, and lost a couple extra inning affairs to Los Alamos.

Still excited about Herberholz. Poor kid pitches 7 innings, 1 hit, strikes out 12, walks one, and gets the ND. Now 2nd in the IL in K's and ERA down to 2.70. Can't wait for a few more years when the other kids are up here and maturing to see what kind of staff we have.

Cy Gray, still getting it done.

Big Jon met his target of 20 bombs in his rookie campaign and is up to 23 now. Everything from here is gravy.

I have several guys in AAA saying they should be playing in the majors. Too bad guys, one more year in AAA for you. Just too young. Although 25 yr old Dave Foglesong will come up next year.

4-3 as we lose a game to Cali but gain two on VA for the wildcard.

This is very exciting. If I don't make the playoffs this is definitely the best way to go out.

May be pure coincidence, but Jarava, Colon and Scott's demands on a new deal all went up $2 per after this SIM.

There are no coincidences in a structured universe such as the BLB.

Washington Bats (90-46; 1st Place in Stout)

            2-1 vs. Morgantown
            2-2 vs. Virginia

Tough games this week as expected. I predicted 3-4 and said I would be very pleased with a winning sim. All things consider, I'm good with it.

Best Game: The Mohawks take a 3-2 lead in the 7th after trailing most of the game. The Bats respond by scoring two in the bottom of the inning and hang on with a 4-3 win.

Worst Game: Virginia no-hit us in a game.

            The Good
-In order to not over exert my rotation I've used a six-man all year. For September, it's been extended to a seven, maybe eight man by the end of it. This weeks surprise starter was SP Curt Tanner. Some of you remember the name. Sandwich pick by Maine in 1986, Tanner was a former top 100 prospect and did some damage in the BLB with Batavia. After being traded to Dallas, he struggled for two years and was cut. This entire season Tanner has played for the Bats Single-A, Double-A and Triple-A teams but just made his season debut at the BLB level. The 31-year-old against Morgantown stat line: 8 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Unfortunately the bullpen blew it in extras but very impressive by Tanner.

-SP Troy Hanback is on fire. In his past five starts he has five wins. He hasn't given up more than three earned runs in a start since he gave up four on 7/22, a game the Bats won anyways. This week in a 8-6 win over Virginia, he gave up just one over seven innings.

            The Bad
-Due to injuries OF Gene Roberson had to play a lot more than usual and struggled. He is hitting .095 in his last seven games. After a great July, his August and September numbers have been very, very poor. If only OF Miguel Angel Monchez was healthy.

            The Ugly
-No sweep = no broom picture.

            The Farm
-My Triple-A Richmond Rams won the Championship this week. A very close 5-4 win over New Haven (Hartford). In the top of the 9th, OF Baldassario Vercesi tried to score from first on a double and was thrown out at the plate. Now I can finally do my big time call-ups for the BLB stretch run.

            The Week Ahead
-Two @ Morgantown, two vs. Wilmington and three @ Davenport, then a much needed day off. Those are the three worst teams in the IL not named Batavia. I'd expect a good week but my offense really isn't clicking after being shutout twice this past week. Maybe the call-up of a few youngsters will recharge the offense but I'm not expecting a dominating week from my guys. I'll say 1-1 in both Morg/Wil, and 2-1 at Davenport. 4-3 week.

                4-3 Helped out Washington's bid.
Rivera has been stellar , should have been an all-star. Only allowed 2 runs since May.

Big decision coming up for us for the last few sims.

Angelo Barrios comes off the DL this week and will no doubt be rusty. Do we allow him to start and work off the rust or do we keep rolling with the often maligned Barney Kenner, who has played surprisingly well in Barrios' absence?

I'm in the same boat with Miguel Angel Monchez and BJ Jobe. Got another two weeks to decide.

                        Contender problems.

Well I'm not really sure if I'm making the playoffs yet. On another note, Don Hudson is playing his way to an extension with the way he started September.

4 HR, 12 RBI..... All this at the bottom of the order. 2/3 on the BOLD predictions ain't bad.

Some of that old Batavia magic and Los Alamos luck would be awesome right about now.

Man, we can't keep pissing this opportunities against Dallas away like this. But I will say, that Bryant/Dimmick match up was a beauty!

Root for Denver. This train is rolling right by the Bulls!

And the only good news in our organization is we are in the A Championship and lost in the AA Final Four. Our A team is in good shape even though we are down 0-1 in the series. We are at the top of our pitching order and have Gonzales (1.9), Burton (1.15), Olson (1.21), and Delk (2.12) up the next four games, then back to Gonzales and Burton if we go to seven. Throw in Gomez who is in AAA now and we might have a rotation in a few years.
