    NEXT SIM : Friday

    ***

Pittsburgh kind of shit the bed on their Pre-SIM (see thread), but other wise no real issues, so we'll just give ASSHAT OF THE SIM to snow.

The waiver trade deadline will pass during Monday's SIM.

Figured this is where we would get passed. Tough series the last 2 weeks. Lots of 1 run losses.

          4-2 week

-- Chuck Lindsey threw a shut out against Denver because fuck Denver.

-- All-Star 2B Tristan Romarigues is out three weeks with a strained rib cage muscle. Given that he's OPSing .610 this year, that might be a blessing.

-- Thank god I traded for Sammy Knowlton.

-- Kinsey didn't do much his first week with Maine.

-- Hector Carbajal went bonkers. 11 for 25 with 4 bombs and 9 RBI.

                3-3 but doesn't really matter.

Moved JJ Caplan up to AAA...I normally don't like two level moves in one year but he's just been tearing it up I had to. His first week he hit .381 and drove in 7 runs. The plan is for him to play the entire 2001 season in AAA and cook him along with some others and have him debut in spring 2002.

Cy Gray since coming over from Baltimore has been playing very well. Cy's batting .323 with an OPS+ of 156 in 30 games. Small sample size but a nice start.

Jamie Herberholz continues his maturation. His numbers continue to improve and he has cracked the top players list for the first time in his career. Good sign.

In other news Ming Er returns to the team from the DL this week.

Needs to cut down those K's, but he's a legit threat to do the old Jimmy Rollins/Curtis Granderson (Mel Woodbury) loaded stat sheet (200 H/100 R/30 HR/100 RBI/30 2B/10 3B) type season. He'll never be a 100 BB guy, but really nice.

We're hopeful he settles into a 100-120 K guy, which is still a metric shit-ton, but is better than the 150 he's on pace for now. He'll probably always be a K machine.

Ten Things about Denver and the BLB, but mostly about Denver.

                            1. Perhaps Travis Cesare is a legit player. He certainly is playing above his ratings. He finally had a strong AAA showing this year and it has translated into BLB success. He had another strong week (.375/.412/.438) and is currently batting .294/.359/.435 for Denver.

Hard to tell how long this success will last, but take into consideration he has OPSed higher than .810 in three of his four months in the show. Cesare could get some New Brew consideration if he keeps this up.

                            2. Harris Vreke stole two more bags, giving him 11 in just 30 games. He only stole 3 in 63 AAA games this year. Not to say he isn't known for running. He has stolen over 20 bases in three of the past four professional seasons.

                            3. Despite some early struggles, we stuck with (the other) Alex Martinez in the rotation and it might be paying off, finally. He has now thrown at least 8 innings in three of his last four starts. Both our scout and OSA seem to like the kid, so we're hoping he's just a late bloomer.

                            4. Jermaine Taylor was 9-2 combined in Oklahoma City (AA) and Tucson (AAA). That has not translated to BLB success. At all. In three starts, he has not gotten out of the 4th inning or given up less than 5 runs for a 13.09 ERA and 2.45 WHIP.

                            5. Former Whaler and Bull Chuck Lindsey is now with Maine and has throw 4 complete games this season at the age of 35. It not only breaks the career high he set last season, but in the past two seasons he has now thrown 7 complete games - one more than he threw from ages 21-33.

Lindsey is also on pace to throw his second consecutive 200 inning campaign. He only threw 200 innings once prior to last season.

                            6. Speaking of complete games, 23-year-old prospect Zack Mueller just threw his 2nd complete game this season for Tucson (AAA). Though his career is still very young, prior to this season, the last time he threw a complete game was in 1995, when he was a freshman for Oregon State.

                            7. We continue to be proud of Tommy Potter. He leads all of AAA with 188 strikeouts and is second in wins with 14. But his real competition in winning a BCC Pitcher of the Year Award comes from Maine Guides prospect Dusty Paulsen.

Paulsen is tops in ERA (1.99) and VORP (53.7). Though Potter edges him out in wins and strikeouts, the last two weeks of the season will see if Potter, who sports a 2.43 ERA and 50.7 VORP, has enough to catch the former 11th overall pick.

                            8. Jimmy Scortino finished his A ball season going 4-2 with a 2.46 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 12 starts. He struck out 76 and walked just 24 batters in 80 innings. In his and Little Rock's final game of the season, he struck out 11 across 8 innings in a no-decision. Little Rock (A) did not make the playoffs.

                            9. Last season's DL Stout Slugger Alexis Camillo seems to be in position to take home the award for a consecutive year. For those that do not remember, the last player to accomplish this feat was Carmen Chamissa in 1992 and 1993 when he led the league in RBI, SLG, OPS and VORP both seasons.

But Camillo is also in position (according to advanced metrics) to take home a consecutive DWI at 1B. He was the second player (Hector Carbajal, 1989) to win both a DL Stout Slugger and DWI in the same season, but would be the first to do so in consecutive years if he can win both awards in 2000.

                            10. Tony Perez leads Denver with 5 wins. The next closest is Don Weaver (4) and he's back in AAA.

Well, one good season. Happy he finally got it going. Be interesting to see if he strings a few of these seasons together.
