Thats what happens when you don't trade while the value is high.

I wish him a speedy and, more importantly, a complete recovery. I hate when young stars get hurt because you are always holding your breath hoping they don't become the next Jeff Franklin.

That name should never be said around these parts. You know it sends shivers down everyone's back.

Waiting for Jake to ask if anyone remembers Conan Wilkerson.

          Speaking of Wilmington.

Mat McMarty (who I've always liked and therefore follow around like his name is Erin Andrews) did this last sim.

          07/15/2000 CAR Win, 4-1 X 8.0 5 1 1 2 4
          07/16/2000 CAR Loss, 12-15 0.2 1 0 0 0 2

He pitched 8 innings surrendering one run and then came in the very next day to strike out two batters in an extra inning game.

His team lost that extras game, and he did give up an inherited run, but that's pitching for the team right after your star player goes down for the season.

I've always thought McCarty would end up being solid, just needed an extra year in AAA IMO.

He was the guy I would have drafted 2nd overall if I had not traded that pick away to Virginia.

Yep, I liked him that much.

Franklin and Wilkerson pretty much ended up with the exact same career.

                ERA
                Wilkerson - 3.33
                Franklin - 3.38

                WHIP
                Wilkerson - 1.23
                Franklin - 1.24

                K/BB
                Wilkerson - 2.6
                Franklin - 2.6

                HR/9
                Wilkerson - 0.6
                Franklin - 0.5

Both were true aces before injuries sapped them of their talent... but not so much that they couldn't continue for a few years bouncing from team to team.

While Franklin had the higher peak (81-83), Wilkerson was dominate longer (87-91).

Hopefully Keifer follows the Herrera route and not the route of Wilkerson and Franklin.

We also lost Lombardo who was not quite ready for the BLB anyways. But we are so pitching, hitting and fielding poor

You should look into stopgaps instead of rushing guys to the majors.
