4-3 this week. Somehow this Shavermetrics defying squad rolls on with smoke and mirrors and is just a few games out of first. 19-9 in May. We'll take it.

DeWitt Pierce snagged IL Pitcher of the Month honors in May which was well deserved. He has sky rocketed to #13 on the top players list as well.

Big Jon finally comes back this week from injury. Lord knows our weak ass lineup can use him!

Pawtucket 4-3. In the spirit of the BLB, you trade some important players and for some strange reason they respond. Either that or my defense was a hell of alot better (Debut update coming)

SP Shusaku Inoue debuted for Pawtucket with 8 innings of solid work.
SS Orlando Saucedo debuted with a solid week .286 with 2 HRs
SP Ruben Aparicio was effective in his debut 6 innings and a win.

WooHoo, a 4-3 sim. Parades are organized and grown men are weeping over the fact that Davenport has a winning week. Been looking for this one for awhile. 2-1 agains Virginia and 2-2 against the people from Windy City.

I'm waiting for water to find its level first. We were actually fairly confident in our bullpen heading into the season. A .400 + BABIP for the first month and half have made things look a lot worse. However, we have had a couple of major injuries recently (Sanchez and Banos), so we may be in the market soon, depending on costs.

Nothing like a 7.0 IP, 1 ER, 13K loss to build your starter's confidence.

Don Weaver has turned into a pleasant surprise.

Undrafted as a high school senior, he was signed to a minor league deal with Virginia. Pitched there from 1990-1997. Despite a strong 1997 campaign in AAA, Virginia released him. Not sure if it was just too many bodies or fear that he wouldn't hold up from a torn elbow ligament he suffered in 1996, but let go he was.

Denver scooped him up in 1998 and he did great from A ball through AAA. Spent another strong year in AAA in 1999 and after two good outings this year, was promptly promoted.

He's 29 and may just be riding a high, but through 8 starts he has 6 quality ones. His two bombs (5 runs against Hartford in 3.2 IP; 5 runs against Maine in 1.1 IP) aside, he has twice gone 8 innings throwing shut out ball (consecutively, mind you, and one of those being against LA) and only twice surrendered more than 2 earned runs, giving up 3 runs in each of his first two starts).

                            He's only 3-4, but has a 1.23 WHIP and a nice 3.40 ERA. He's also only walked 2.50/9.

A nice bright spot and good story in a tattered season.
