Ivan Garcia steps in to replace Dani Rodriguez in the next sim. After that preseason ratings drop, Rodriguez can't hit anymore.

Our pitching is giving up home runs at crazy rates. We need that to cool down if we're going to contend.

It's looking like Larivee's power might be coming on. Still 24. Still like this kid. Can defend and run. Has some pop. Not gonna be a star player, but I think he will be very serviceable.

3-3 week that probably should have been 5-1 but two blown saves against Carolina showed a chink in the armor. I plan on patching that up immediately.
The starters looked dominant again which is what you want to see as a playoff contender.

5-1 sim for LA and closing in on the division lead. We smoked the ball this sim. New kid on the block, 3B Jamie Cozby, didn't look as good as I hoped. We will have to show some patience (not my strong suit). C Victor Alvarez is showing that he may have grown up! The pitchers were on top of their game too.

It's always good to have a couple of bottom feeders to boost up a teams confidence.

Man, if Roch, Potter, Para and Meuller can translate their recent performances to the BLB level, I'll be reminded of the days of Greene, Erwood, Willamson, Gray and Cook before injuries ravaged most of that rotation.

All 4 Bock teams have a positive PYT. Not sure what it translates to but looking at my teams' history I have a +50 PYT since I took over in 1982, next closest is in the teens with the majoriy of teams in the negative. I'll take it as a good thing.

He does. He made it, and he's had a nice mid-rotation type career. I can see him throwing into 40 at a decent return.

He has now thrown more innings as a Guide than he did for Denver's parent club.

Memmoli was a 10th round pick? WOW!!! Best selection in the feeder league era?

                              SIM 5: Baltimore Bulldogs (26-12)
                              1-2 at CAR
                              2-1 vs LAM

As stated earlier, we probably should have swept Carolina but they came up big on a few 1-2 pitches and were able to snatch two victories from the jaws of defeat.

                              THE GOOD

-Right now, Don Hudson is starting to look like that 1st round pick again, hitting 8/20 for the week including 3 doubles. I believe he's playing for a contract and I'm tempted to give it to him with play like this.

-Raul Guzman threw the team's 3rd CG of the year last week in a win against Los Alamos. I can't remember the last time we had more than 2 for a season. I can say, it hasn't been any time in the last 10 years or so.

-Pat Marlin keeps chugging along. As the NCAA's career leader in RBI, home runs, and total bases this kind of performance is not as surprising as it first seems. What is surprising is how deadly he has been against lefties. I thought he would just platoon in left field but after this week, he's going to get a chance to be our only everyday starter in the outfield.

-I will continue singing the praises of Nagisa Kobayashi as a kid who has a very bright future ahead. Although he not shown an aptitude to swing the at against RHP yet, Kobayashi continues to terrorize LHP pitching. This week in just 8 AB, the kid hit 2 HR with 2 BB and 4 RBI.

                              THE BAD

-The back to back blown saves against Carolina is concerning. Both Don Newman and Lonnie Fowler are vets on the team that normally don't make those kinds of mistakes late in games. The All-Star break is approaching quickly and these guys only have a couple more weeks left to prove they belong at the BLB level before they are replaced. The starters should not have to worry about the pen blowing leads in the 8th and 9th inning.

                              ON THE FARM

-1995 3rd round selection, Oscar Lerma (2B/1B) is going to get another taste of BLB action. We gave him a chance in 1998. but he was no where near ready. This year is different as he looks like he's got real potential and the aptitude to get realize it all.

                              NEXT UP:

-3 vs. Virginia and Davenport should be a nice test for us. Virginia keeps plugging away as they always do, and we've got some revenge to get against Davenport. 4-2 week sounds about right.

4-2 including 2 of 3 from first place Hartford.

It's more of a fluke than anything that we're above .500 right now but I'll take it. Certainly some good signs from more than a couple guys, although it's too early for me to think that it's not just a bunch of them playing over their heads. Kinsey has actually been a weak spot for me so far.
