I love having Curt Warren, but Seth Walters looks like one of the top young sluggers in the entire BLB.

Yea. I thought that after I posted but was too lazy to use my phone to go back and edit it.

He's not walking much, but he can hit it a long way. I love that deal.

Winning just enough to keep the fans and the GM interested. Apparently Cavadas heard the Shavermetric podcast.

Tied for first after a month, but we need to start hitting.

The Dani Rodriguez signing looks like garbage right now, but I'm not going to beat myself up for it. He was a productive 5/6/5/5/5 hitter who's taken a ratings drop to 4/5/4/4/4 per my scout, and is 6 for 36 with 6 singles. Sigh.

We finally have some bright spots in Pittsburgh as some young guys have injected a little life in the franchise...

-1B David Gamboa- Came over in the Dani Trujillo trade and at the time seemed like smallest piece of the trade (see 2nd overall pick and SP Jamie Thomas). Gamboa is coming off being named rookie of the month and is hitting .382/.500/.485.

-SP Bernard Purglove- Former 1st rd. international pick that my scout at the time of the draft had at 5-6-6 potential and gushed about him. I have had three scouts since then and they have always had him at 5-5-5 potenial and have thought he's a back end starter at best. But the guy has pitched well at every level:
              '97 (A)- 8-1, 2.18 ERA
              '98 (AA)- 17-0, 1.88 ERA
              '99 (AAA)- 11-3, 2.85 ERA

OSA has had him at 4-5-3 potenial since '96 (which scared me when drafting an international SP in the 1st round) but this year OSA jumped him to 6-6-6 potenial. So not sure what kind of a pitcher he will be but has played pretty well so far this year at 2-0, 2.31 ERA in 4 starts. It may be fools gold though because has given up 15 walks in 23.1 IP.

              - 3B Bill Lugo- With the champs being the champs, they have so much talent that they didn't have room on their 40-man for this young IF. Lugo comes to the Millers via the 2nd pick in the Rule V draft and so far in split duty has been mashing the ball with a slash of .268/.293/.625 w/ a .918 OPS. In 16 games Lugo has 3 doubles, 3 triples and 3 HR's. Another bit of fools gold I'm sure its been fun to watch some young play with a little fire.

All that being said we are tied for 10th in the DL. Good thing the draft starts soon.

No. I had room for Lugo. I always keep my 40 man tight. My Scout had just soured on him. But he's looking good so far.

Big Jon gets rookie of the month. Although he's made Windy City much more windy with all the strikeouts. Dude is an extra base machine so far though.

Love the fact we hit only 6 HR's all month lol. The good news is that 2 for sure and maybe 3 of these hitters will be here in 2002.

But how about that Jerry Stanley!

Ed McGuire's one month tryout is over. About what we expected. He'll be spending the next season or two anchoring our AAA staff until the big guns hit next year. Unfortunatley looks like we won't be able to do better than 3rd in the draft next year.
