Seems like some owners get hung up on certain stats in this game but miss the most important ones.

And despite being completely oblivious to all of the important stats, we keep stumbling into one of the better pitching staffs lately.

    Must be dumb luck.

He's flying under the radar... but Seth Walters, an OF'er I traded to Los Angeles for Curt Warren, has had quite a season in AA-AAA-BLB.

You're right. Does he win games and does he not give up runs? That's the point of the game and this guy, in spite of his stats, figures it out and wins ballgames.

I think the concern is we - or I - have seen this before and it always seems to eventually catch up to them, and much faster or worse than it does for a guy that is simply having a ratings hit.

The benefit for this particular pitcher is his ratings suggest he should be better than his walk rate shows. Why he walks so many guys is confusing to me.

I love this kid! The best deal I've made since our first deal. These cross-state trades seem to work well for us.

Well, can't say I haven't been happy with my return of Warren this year.

I think I'll survive it (financially) but I'm reminded of why I don't like giving extensions out until it's time to negotiate at season's end.
I did the same thing with Tex Watts last year and he tanked the second half of the season after going to the All-Star game. No more regular season extensions for me.

Tex Watts never quite developed like I expected him to.

Thought for sure he'd be the next Harry Elliott at the plate.

I'm hoping he still has a little room to grow. He may never be any better than he is right now, but even this, I am fine with. He's a great fielder and has improved on last years play. His all around game is rounding out. It's all I can ask.

There are no true dominant guys in LA. We have guys that will carry us for a time, but not a whole season. Even Dusty, as good as his numbers look, has stretches where I have to move him out of the middle.

Nope! K/BB ratio nets you the hardware. It's as simple as that.

Speaking of K/BB ratio, Jin-soo Baik has a decent chance to be the only player ever to lead either league in both BB and K. Pagan almost did it once but finished second in Ks.

Very few bright spots at the BLB level for Pawtucket but need to give this kid a shout out:

Rule V draft pick C Artie Stewart just hit his 20 homerun after his 68th game. Not bad for a kid who was injured for part of the season.

Possibly a late bloomer or just a good fit for Pawtucket, but overall nice stat line for the year.

Good job Artie! Glad someone came out to play in 99
