  • SIM COMPLETE - 1999 - SIM 20

    NEXT SIM: Monday

    ***

If my ability to read a calendar is correct, we should be hitting the playoffs right around Christmas Eve. We'll talk about modding the schedule (if necessary) when we (a) get closer and (b) see who is in the playoffs. I don't WANT to take days off, but we will if we need to.

3-3 vs. the IL this week. Not a fan of the results. I would have rather taken 2 from Wilmington than 2 from Virginia. Just trying to be realistic here. Even more curious is the fact that VIR got the bottom of my rotation and the really bad WIL got the top of it. I guess that's why we like this game, to watch the statistical anomalies in action.

Two guys on my trade block continue to play great.

Hack Wells is player of the week. He's on fire. And can still be had.

And DeWitt Pierce is pitching great. I've seen much worse pitchers than him get moved for a good price, yet he sits. Only 28 years old and wants 5 mil per year, he's a steal. Guess he can be a mentor for the next few years for our young guys unless somebody makes a move for him.

Farm system still sits on top even with the injuries to some top guys. Nothing much more to do but stay the course.

Lost Ivan Vasquez on waivers. Tough to only get four starts out of a guy when you gave up a useful player for him, but he was so completely terrible -- more walks than strikeouts, six homers allowed in 24 innings -- that I didn't feel like I had much of a choice when I'm trying to win the division.

Speaking of which, we pulled within five games of Hartford. It's just tough and frustrating to be five games ahead on Pythagorean record and five games behind in the standings. We need some of those close ones to start going our way. Given that we finally have a good bullpen, I expected we'd start pulling more of those games out, but it hasn't happen.

10-2 against the almighty IL this season. If we played in the Stout we'd probably already have 100 wins.

6-0 and pulled within 14 games of Cali. I know I won't catch them but we can at least make it look respectable.

For the most part, our pitching feasted in the DL including a 8IP, 13K outing by Vluegel and a 2-1 complete game win for Katsura.

Definitely liking what I'm seeing. We may just be getting hot at the right time.

Back to 3-3 again though I've got to try and figure out what in the heck happened to my lineup with Furey batting first. Then again maybe I should leave well enough alone.

We never seem to perform well on the road during interleague play. The pitchers seem disinterested and our offense is almost always outgunned. 1-5 for the week to fall back to 1 game over .500 for the season.
