He's 42. If he doesn't retire. Pay him his 2000 salary to backup all 3 OF position and take all of your pinch hit appearances. If he comes back, you need to keep him out of the OF. He's a defensive liability right now.

I only ask because he's got a real shot at becoming the alltime H leader if he doesn't suffer a significant ratings hit and it would be a shame if he didn't get a legit chance to do so.

I think he may hang them up, we don't see a lot of hitters play to 42.

I just don't think you can play him everyday in the OF.

And I'm sure no DL team (where he should go to DH) is going to pay that contract with the risk of him falling off the cliff.

The one thing I would mention... take it for what it's worth.... Goto jumped to #1 in BA when he moved him to 3B. In a system that over-values Catchers, it may be telling.

That being said, I'd roll a Goto - Hamilton - Brown OF in 2000 in a heartbeat.

There is the chance he jumped because there simply aren't very many good 3B in the league anymore.

But I agree. I'd roll with that outfield.

I guess I just don't see that big of a difference defensively between Guzman and Goto at this point. Granted, Guzman may fall off a cliff this offseason, just saying if finding a defensive alternative to Guzman is part of the discussion, then Goto is not the obvious choice.
