That's not horrible? I mean, sure, if you don't mind your outfielder jumping out of the Green Monster every now and then and cutting off cut off throws from his fellow center fielder, it's not horrible.
Oh Carlos. He's still young. You can put him in the OF and I'm sure he can develop. No wonder you bring up your kids at 21.

I feel like Clay has a hand in this somewhere after seeing Hector Chavez masquerade as a short stop for years.
You'd be wrong. In fact, I think in the one conversation Squid and I had about Goto it was me saying (a) don't trade this guy... he's going to boom very soon (proven correct by his jump to #1 on the BA) and (b) might want to consider trying him in a corner OF to see if he can be even serviceable there. Squid had the 3B plan.
Sure, Chavez was an average/below average defensive SS at best... but there are so few SS in this league that can hit... I went with getting maximum bats on the field. Oh... and the 5 years he got over 100 starts at SS... we won 4 titles. That's a a great Masquerade.

Wait, you won championships with Chavez as your short stop? Do tell!
He's 24. His defense isn't improving much. I guarantee it.
Granted getting some work in the OF at age 24 isn't perfect world, but it beats cramming 3B at him. I'm not in-game so don't know what my scout thinks.

He will be a better OF than 3B. I agree there. And I guess he'd be serviceable in the OF. I just don't think he'd be a good defensive outfielder. But I get what you're saying: he'll play there and hit. I guess that matters when a guy is already a poor defender.
Ship out Reyes and move Goto or Deleon to first base. That is an much better option than trying to force feed him 3B.
I think if he wants to hold onto Reyes, then you hold onto him.
Let Goto come in slowly. I'm guessing he wants to promote him for 2000.
Reyes walks after 2000 and Goto can become the full-time 1B. Or like you said, Deleon moves to 1B and let Goto catch.
Or maybe he wants to hold onto Reyes beyond 2000. I don't know. I surely wouldn't tell him who to trade or hold onto. That's up to him.
The Goto to 3B thing though is just a tough move. I think he's fortunate that Goto hasn't had any problems offensively at AAA while dealing with the switch. It's probably because Goto is just that good.
The one thing I would mention... take it for what it's worth.... Goto jumped to #1 in BA when he moved him to 3B. In a system that over-values Catchers, it may be telling.
That being said, I'd roll a Goto - Hamilton - Brown OF in 2000 in a heartbeat.

Would rather see Goto play 1B, but that OF from a offense stdpt sounds death.
