    OF - Willie McConnell

Had to call McConnell up from AA to cover for the backup of Fujii (injury) who went down with his own injury.

In three games McConnell hit 4/9, 2 HR, 4 RBI, with a 1.611 OPS.

He'll be back in AA by Friday's sim but it was a nice debut, none the less.

He did a great job covering up for the loss. Didn't like any of the AAA options?

In years past I would have gone with Willie Quick, but his best years are now behind him.

Thanks for starting the thread, linty.

        CL J.J. Ballos

Ballos, the 40th pick in the 1996 draft, is currently 47th on the BA Top 100. In limited work as closer in AAA this year, he's struck out 14 and walked one with a 0.71 WHIP. Hits 98 on the radar, has a nasty slider to go with his fastball, and is the nicest son of a gun you'll ever meet. I'm a little worried about his control (I always am because I can't get guys to develop there to save my life), but, he gave me no reason to worry with his performance these last two months.

            SP - Nelson Reyes

1.13 pick in the 1996 draft. He's never been on the top 100 list, but my scout has always liked him. Suffered a bad arm injury in 1997 and suffered ratings drops as a result. Still, he's been working his way back and pitched a perfect game last season at AAA, where he struck out almost a batter per inning. We're hoping he still has a little something.

He made his first start this week and held his own: 6.2 IP | 2ER | 2BB | 6 K in a no decision against WAS.

              SP - Tyler Baker

Baker, the #22 prospect in the BLB and the #2 pick in the 1996 draft will join the #1 pick in the 1996 draft, Travis Fisher, in the Kodiaks rotation for the next two weeks.

He's been in AAA for the past year and with 14 games in 14 days it'll be the perfect time to introduce Baker to the majors.

                  SP - Marlon Huffman

Decided to call up Mr. Huffman and let him do spot duty for the rest of the year and let him be in the rotation next year. He's the #25 prospect of the BA and didn't have the best year in AAA so far with a 4.31 ERA and 1.41 WHIP. He's been much better in previous seasons so maybe he was bored.

He was the 10th pick of the 1993 draft and has been in the Windy City and Hyundai organizations.

He came in the 3rd game against Virginia in the 8th and pitched two innings of shutout ball with one walk.

Are you spot-starting him with 7-day lineups? I've never been able to get the spot-start to work otherwise. (AI just ignores the spot-start %.)

                      SP - Willie Castellanos

Pick 1.8 in the '97 draft. He's still a little raw, but with the injury to Sears, we'll be giving him an opportunity on the big squad. He'll go directly into the rotation and will hopefully remain there for the foreseeable future. OSA absolutely loves the kid, my scout really likes him so hopefully he can meet somewhere in the middle.

The international free agent pitcher no one mentions. The 32-year-old made his debut and threw 3 innings. He gave up 4 hits, 1 run and walked 2.

Olan spent time in every level this season, working his way up to his BLB debut. "It was a dream come true," the hard-working Panamanian said. Or we think he did. He's still learning the language.

Very nice. I thought he had potential but I picked pretty late and really didnt gave room.

SS Ian Morrow Our 1.17 pick in the '96 draft may be the only player worth the trip to Javelinas Stadium this year. His average has dipped this month, but he's shown more pop than we expected. He's also our best glove and baserunner. I hope we can rebuild in time for him to see the post-season with the Javelinas.
