We trade away our better players and get better. Oh well. It's all about the farm which is improving. Hopefully in June we'll be even stronger with our draftees.

We need the help since you jumped out to such a big lead.

3-4 including a couple in Cali that could have gone either way. This will be our first full week with our full complement of offensive players as Trujillo came back on the back half of last week while we get Bornstein back this week. Probably will take another week or so to knock off the rust. In reality, we probably still won't be 100% as it looks like Marlin may be out for a while.

                  5-2.
Swept Syracuse 2-0. Swept Dallas 2-0. Lost 2 of 3 to Hartford.
                  13-13 overall. 3 GB

Lots of good here. My happiest is the pitching continues to be solid. We're still in a lot of close games - again, I expect that will happen - but for this sim, we came out on top in those going 4-2 in 1-run games. Wow. That's a bit nerve racking. At least the ball bounced our way this week.

Lim finally exploded (though he was very good the rest of the week), blowing a win for Lindsey. It's a shame. Lindsey is 1-3 and should have had 3 wins before winning his first game. He took losses or no decisions in three starts in which he pitched 7/8/8 innings and gave up 2/2/1 runs respectively. Then of course he wins the game he surrenders 5 runs in 7 innings. It's a cruel world.

A bit of a scare with newly acquired Hector Gonzalez going down with an ankle sprain in his first game in Denver. It was minor and he came back strong going 2-4, 1 RBI (and throwing one runner out stealing) in his first game back.

Bollati pitched his heart out again going 8.2 against Syracuse. He was cruising until he gave up three singles in the 9th and his first run. Lim came back from his rough outing to register the last out on a K.

The Ole Mens project begins. Giving him the ball to start. I had hoped that moving Pete Jones would equate to another Top 20 pitcher (somehow because I'm delusional), but instead I'll just slide Mens into the spot (Roe is waiting in case it doesn't work out). Mens has the stamina and the ratings (according to my scout). He only has two pitches, but that hasn't stopped some guys. He went 6.1. 4 hits. 2 runs. Only blemish is 4 walks and 1 K. I'll take it.

Eddy Hernandez also made his season debut in Mens's game. He picked up the save throwing 8 of his 10 pitches for strikes.

Denver was lucky to sweep Dallas. Their starters shut us down. The bullpen gave up costly runs.

Hartford is scrappy good and their pitching held us down. We finally got to Hautbourg and the offense managed more than a couple hits for once this week.

                  Good week.

Fernando Hernandez Top IL Starter in April.

The 22-year-old Bandits starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-0 won-lost record in 5 starts. This month he fanned 31 batters in 34.1 innings and compiled a 1.31 ERA.

Carbajal making me eat my words.

                    DL's #1 Player Named
Monday, May 3rd, 1999: A battle-tested Héctor Carbajal declared war on opposing pitchers last week, attacking the ball like the well-schooled veteran he is. Today the 34-year-old Maine shortstop collected the Domestic League Player of the Week Award.

He wrapped up the week with a .458 average, 11 hits in 24 at-bats, 1 home run, 7 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

For the year Carbajal has hit .314 with 2 home runs, 16 RBIs and scored 14 runs.

winning record every sim so far

Lonnie Williams making the progress I thought he would last year. 36 rbi's in 26 games. WoW. Player of the week.

Trey Brown rule V hitting .324 in leadoff duty. Now hurt diagnosis pending

Jerry Williams and Don Leonard the Ole Guys are 5-0

                      Lombardo is on the horizon

Its been fun so far, but smoke and mirrors don't last.

My trades opened up some money for me and I could finally give Lindsey his extension.

He was asking for $55 MM over 5 years ($44 MM guaranteed).

It seems he's open to $27 MM over 3 years guaranteed after some negotiating (Greed is Low; Loyalty is Very High. True Leader right here). He will be 36 when he starts this contract. He could very well crash and burn this year or sometime during the next 5 seasons. But this is what I'm going with. Gotta commit. I traded for him, I'm going to make the push with him.

Bollati will be 35 when he starts his $27 MM/3 YR contract. I'm looking to extend Fitzgerald as well. Basically the plan is to ride these dudes till 2003.

That's when Brown's contract is up as well.
