I'm of the belief that a solid pen is very important along with that starting rotation. It's kind of chicken and egg. You want good starters so your bullpen isn't taxed, but you also need that pen to hold onto leads.
You're doing it right in that aspect.
re Olivo. He never seems to be a big strikeout guy as a starter. He's 9k/9 as a reliever, but seems to fall around 6k/9 as a starter. I think that weak third pitch is what does it.Maine Guides

The Shavermetrics podcast told me a lot about my team. There is a reason nobody talks about us. We only play well against the bottom feeders. This year the Pilsner is not so bad so who am I going to beat? My own division? I'll be lucky to be .500 against them and I doubt our record is even close to that good. We have the PERFECT rotation of bad starts, followed by bad BP performances, followed by poor hitting, to make our stats look good but ultimately win nothing. I love to see games where we score 10+ runs. But doing it twice in a week and NOT hitting in the rest of the games is what gets my goat. I know it is only week 2 but how many years do I have to see the same end results?
I also never mentioned Denver because we pretty much have torched your guys over the last few years. But I remember going up against against the bottom of Mississippi's pitching with the TOP of my pitching order and getting swept last year. I remember getting swept by Indy last year in a series that would have put me in first place in the division. Losing 2 out of 3 to the really bad Pitt team. The triple play that destroyed my playoff hopes. The perfectly timed Torres injury that kept him from pitching in the last week. What I am saying is this organization is a loser. In spite of the players on it, or because of them makes no difference to me. So, cue up the Scorpions "Winds of Change", gentlemen....L.A. Dinos GM since '94

3-3 sim, going 1-3 against Mississippi and 2-1 against the Pigs.
Doug Rich had a rough week, taking a thrashing against the Storm to start the sim, and giving up 6 runs, 4 earned against the Piglets to cap the week.
In between, Pat "Wildfire" Bryant had his first dominant start in the BLB, going 7 innings, giving up 2 unearned runs, 4 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 11 batters. This was nice to see after he only lasted into the third inning his first outing of the season.
J.P. Johnston also delivered his first solid big league outing, going 7 innings, allowing 5 hits, 1 run, and a walk while striking out 4.
Jerry Morgan had another great outing, but didn't pick up the win. I have a feeling he's going to see a lot of this until we get some offense, as Clay suggested in the official BLB Radio Podcast.
The pitching on this team has the potential to be lights out in a couple years. Good things...
