Either way, I feel it becomes an exercise on discipline, because (cap or no) we are still limited by budget (a sort of soft cap) regardless. If you lock up a guy at $25, cap or no, you limit what you can do with the other 24 spots.

If people want to "fix" the issue of people offering too big of contracts... stop bailing out owners who offer them. Stick a guy with a bad contract and he'll think twice about making another one. Bail a guy out of one for a pick... and the cycle continues.
    Agreed.

I'm stuck with Kubota's contract since no one wants a free 1st round pick plus most of the 1999 salary paid to take him off my hands.

Agreed. The only reason I was able to get Hernandez was because there was a taker for Murdoch. I didn't offer a contract to him, but since he accepted arbitration I was screwed. That said there will always be teams that have some fiscal flexibility and are able to make decisions that might help them in the future.

BTW, do we think arbitration numbers are affected by the inflated salaries? I find it hard to believe that Murdoch is worth the arbitration amount.

Well in the end it would depend on what the cap was. The rest I agree with. Which is why I said it will take care of itself long term because if people keep doling out 25mil per contracts there are gonna be a ton of free agent bargains available to the teams that don't. Demands always go down when there's no offers.

Which reminds me Pawtucket can now take on bad contracts for draft picks.
