My fear, it's going to impact what all players want to resign.

Fortunately, that number is already stupidly high for most players. Instead of not resigning a 36-year-old because he wants a 5-year deal worth $16M per, I will now not be resigning him because he wants a 7-year deal worth $25M per. Same difference.

It will balance itself out. Once the players who are asking for 25mil per year see that they aren't getting it, they will come back down. But we wanted no cap, so here we go.

A cap wouldn't change demands. It would only impact the number of players who sit out.

Well sure it would because the initial boost in offers would be less. A cap would make people think twice on dropping 25MIL per on minor league players in the first place which is what Brad was referring to about starting a new cycle of inflated demands due to these contracts.

I stand by the fact that it wouldn't. Guys don't lower their asking price during the off-season and rarely during the season (except at ST).

Under that system, the ST bids just become a diceroll.

Either way, I feel it becomes an exercise on discipline, because (cap or no) we are still limited by budget (a sort of soft cap) regardless. If you lock up a guy at $25, cap or no, you limit what you can do with the other 24 spots.

If people want to "fix" the issue of people offering too big of contracts... stop bailing out owners who offer them. Stick a guy with a bad contract and he'll think twice about making another one. Bail a guy out of one for a pick... and the cycle continues.

I have to agree with this statement.

Which reminds me Pawtucket can now take on bad contracts for draft picks.
