I didn't say I was right... I said you weren't either. The last year at $25 is hardly $27 per over the entire contract.

This is no different than my first year in the BLB. '94 was a great year, to be anybody other than the Dino. Finsley, "the Link", "Rock and Roll" and several others destroyed our happy little financial system. MASSIVE contracts dolled out without any thought of how hard the money took to earn. I'm not saying these guys weren't worth the money they got, but WOW.

MY hats off to anyone with the stones to make a deal like this. To spend a quarter of the payroll on one guy almost seems silly. I think California has a unique set of circumstances (young and financially free) to make it work. With great young talent in the pipe you can throw cash at people all day. Until the kids grow up and take it away from you. (yes, Dusty Simmons, I'm going to point a finger)

Just noticed Fujii comes in as the #4 prospect, Hernandez at #7. Maybe it was worth it.

Considering they are getting paid 20-25 mil more than the #1 prospects....I can't say I agree with you.

I wouldn't be able to investigate without going under your ID.

It's not a known bug, so it's doing something intentionally. Wish I was more helpful.

Not sure if it still works in this version, but the Shaver loophole was to offer an arb eligible guy $$ < his estimated value for 2000. The system frees up those additional dollars while he's mulling over your "offer". PM if you need actual details.

As long as we have the concept of "budgets," if not a salary cap, you can't really declare a player to be not worth their contract. If I'm $20M under my budget and I need a leadoff hitter, and there's one guy out there who fits the bill, I'm going to wildly outspend everyone for that guy. The contract might look absurd when I'm done, but I will have gotten my guy and remained "financially responsible" in the end. Linty had money to burn and a need to improve the middle of his lineup, so it's hard to say a player "isn't worth" what he's being paid. He's worth that to Linty.

                      Ugh. I agree with Dave.

Also, Steve Suarez is now the #32-ranked prospect in the nation. Which is interesting, considering he's my only top-100 prospect despite being the #2 ranked prospect in my system.

He's going to start the year at AA at age 20. There's a chance he'll be in the bigs this year in some capacity. We'll see.

You can't analyze deals like that in a vacuum. Would I like it for you? No. Would I like it for me? No. But given the position of Linty's team right now, both from a standings perspective and a financial perspective, I don't mind the deal for him, no.

Overpaying for those guys make sense, but by that much? You don't think he could have had Fujii for $50M less?

But it's not overpaying if (a) that's what he's asking for and (b) that's what the market dictates.

We never have and never will have pay checks in line with talent.
