  • Career Ending Injuries

I've noticed in my offline game and seen a lot of complaints on the forums that there are a lot of career ending injuries. I'm considering editing the injuries.txt file to remove the possibility of career ending for all but a few injuries. I just don't think career ending injuries are that common in modern baseball unless a player is older, which the game already models very well by having them retire if they keep getting hurt.

Thoughts? I'd like to make a decision either way before the next sim in case we do see a career ender.

In my single player league I've seen a few, but it hasn't been that bad. Maybe I've been lucky.

I agree. Now a days, there aren't that many career ending injuries to begin with. Usually, career enders begin with being caught red handed with hGH or other PED.

I simmed an offline game and 2 days into spring training i had a 27 year old get a career ending injury. Not saying it doesn't happen but I don't see that as a good sign for frequency.

Has anyone checked to see how many career ending injuries occurred during the era we?re playing in? I?m too old and feeble to remember that far back, but I bet medicine wasn?t then what it is now. When did they ?perfect? Tommy John surgery?

"The surgical procedure hasn't changed much since it was pioneered by Frank Jobe for John in 1974."

I just looked and here's my input:

              Remove for:
              Fractured Ankle
              Fractured foot
              Herniated Disc (back)
              Back spasms
              dislocated shoulder
              Bone chips
              Pinched nerve (neck)
              Fractured Elbow

Broken bones really 99% of the time don't seem like a reason why people retire. Ruptured and torn muscles I can agree with if they are not frequent, however for most of those I'd only say season ending. I'd vote you keep the really bad ruptures and tears (ACL, MCL, PCL, Groin) as career and the rest (rotator cuff, rib cage etc) to season ending

I'm kind of up in the air on this one. I don't think that it is a major problem, and I haven't seen much in my solo play (haven't played 2006 solo in a few months, though). If you guys think it's a problem, then by all means, edit away.

I really haven't seen this be a huge problem and I've simmed upwards of 100 years of 3 different leagues in 2006. I have seen some sudden declines after injury by guys who were studs for years, but they are few and far between and probably only noticeable because of the sudden production drop.

Either way I don't really mind, but just pointing out that it didn't seem to be an overblown system.
