An unlikely 4 game sweep of the Tobs. We've already surpassed our win total from last year. Art Yeandle comes back in a week. Just enough of a surge to finish 5 games out and ruin draft position.

Kind of a bummer seeing Carolina not really making a big push. Seems they have plenty in AAA to help them in September.

                  5-2 overall for the week.

Swept Dallas. Split with the "surging" Clowns (seriously, what the hell!).

Several arms came up for September. Several will be a part of next year's team. Many impressed me.

Melvin Cota was a Rule V pick last year. He struggled in the BLB (as was expected), but was absolutely great in AAA this year. He threw 5.2 innings over 3 games surrendering only 2 runs.

Itaru Miyauchi has been clamoring to play in the BLB for two years. He got a call up last year and was brutal in his one start. Perhaps that was the mistake: having him start. He pitched all year in AAA in 1999 and handled his own. He threw 5 innings over the week in his call up giving up only 2 unearned runs.

Zach Hodges made his BLB debut. The former 1996 3rd Round Pick was a closer at every level. He collected 42 saves in college and another 66 in the minors. This year he had 29 (17 in AAA). He threw 3.1 out of the pen, allowing just one run on a solo shot.

Troy Clark made his return a while ago, now having thrown 68 innings in the BLB this year. He is 3-4, 3.88 ERA which is a major improvement over his 6.30 ERA in 1996 and 10.15 in 1997. AAA time definitely helped him. Think he's ready for a permanent starting position in 1999.

And finally, the man, the dream, the mecca. Zack Mueller made his BLB debut pitching his way through 7.2 innings in an 8-7 ND win over Dallas. Mueller struck out 4, walked 4 and gave up 2 runs. He pitched at every level this year after being drafted 4th overall out of Oregon State. Some may think it's too soon. We think it's just the right time for Mr. Mueller.

Also, not to ignore the accomplishment of a man that has faced some demons in Denver. Ivan Olivo picked up his 300th career save. Happy trails to you, Ivan.

5-1 for the week. We've got a comfrortablr lead in the Porter going into September, so now is the time to get some rest for our heavy hitters and hope to avoid injury.

We are going to call up Sadaharu Katsura (SP) and former Dallas Org. pitcher, Pancho Gomez (SP) who had an amazing year in AAA and who will both get a start or two this month.

We are also going give Colin Reed
and Oscar Lerma, our 1st and 2nd basemen of the future, a look or two in September.

                      Btw, Brad.

                      Geoff Scott.

T-shirt bet. Still something in the tank.

It'll come down to the wire. He's been coming on strong to end the season. It's about the time of the year for a wheel to come off though.
